I've seen a lot of people with special areas on their islands specifically for their homes (my boyfriend is doing this too). But I'm making a residential area and am currently planning on incorporating my own house into this section. On one hand, it's nice to have everyone together and I feel like it makes sense for my house to be there too, but having your own area seems fun too and gives more freedom for personalization.

What are you guys doing?

I have a small neighbourhood, with my house nearby but not right next to my villagers for some personal space. I used to live on the complete opposite side of the island from my villagers and felt so removed from them, so I moved closer :)

I had my house on the northeast corner of town because the section of rock/beach next to it was just really nice to just sit there and watch the sunset/look at the stars. Now that I don't use that rock for that anymore, I'm planning to move my house into the residential area where three of my starters are (and I'd be much closer to RS and shopping which would be so nice!), but I'm trying to make sure there's room first and I've been moving everyone's houses around and I might end up doing some cliff terraforming I wasn't anticipating to make it look not cramped...

This map was from last weekend. (Stitches became an islander on May 10, 2020.)

I wanted to use the first level for commons areas, like that Main Street-type area for the shops, the museum, and for Resident Services.

I have the islanders on the second level. So, they can go up one level to the humans—or they can come down on level to the main-level areas which also include a park-like atmosphere (“Rides”).

Although it isn’t reflected, on that map, I have added waterfalls in the backyards of Erik (C) and Whitney (F).

This is interesting.

I personally put my house on the Main Path so to speak, and my villagers have a residential area of their own.

I don’t have a neighborhood so we all have our own areas. Personally, I don’t want a super secluded place but I do want my house to have a bit more privacy. My house is on a three-tier coastal compound near the north shore close to the secret beach. I share it with Marshal because he’s the ONLY one allowed to live near my house (there’s a background story to this stemming from NL) and that’s one of the rules I strictly follow in all my NL towns and it carried over to NH.

On the left side of the island, some are going to be closer to the beach, but not on the beach. They have next door neighbors, but not right next to each other, because there is a river splitting them from one another.

I moved mine recently to be close to my shopping district. Might move it yet again but i would like to keep it around that area.

It's in the cliffs, surrounded by the iron gate fence that's surrounded by a spooky forest with mushrooms and gravestones. Within the gate is another forest. Forest upon forest.

If you imagine a haunted house, like that or what I'm aiming for.

I have all my villagers spread out and I share the forest area with Dom, since he has a very woodlands-y house exterior, too.

Mine is all the way on the top left corner of the island on the 3rd level. My house is next to Rudy's and I'm trying to make a cool area for the both of us.

I'll have two villages, each with 2-3 animal houses and one human character. The rest goes into whatever section they fit in.

My house is on the third level right above the waterfall because I love being dramatic ahaha... honestly pretty inconvenient (especially before i had all the inclines and bridges put in) but I'll do it for the aesthetic

I used to have my villager houses spread across all three levels in rows (2 at the very top, 5 in the middle, and 3 on the bottom). I'd provide an image but I'm moving everyone to the beach to overhaul the residential area part of my island because I find it felt too uniform.

I'm on a second tier cliff next to a waterfall that I made and it's pretty far from everyone else, they're all on ground level. And I'm just planning on putting random things that I like to make the area cute and homey
