Where are we?

I've always wondered where our player is when we load up the game. It's like a pitch black, foggy room. Does anyone know or have any ideas?

Good question. I always pictured it as when the character first wakes up and the room is still dark. But why is there a spotlight and why is Isabelle there? Hm...

Well, since in AC:WW you would have to go to bed to save I believe it's you dreaming. Only they didn't make you go back to your house to save.

I don't think so. If we're dreaming, how can we demolish houses & towns and magically change times? Unless... Animal Crossing is a dream! But then we dream inside the "dream", so it can't be dream.

Something about Isabelle reminds me of Zhu Li from Legend of Korra, so I always assumed she was just a really hardworking assistant that woke you up to start the day.
