When you watch TV or pick out a game, do you look at the rating?

I don't often get money, so I don't want to spend it on crap. My mom pays the sattelite bill, so I'm not to concerned about TV reviews.
Edit- My mom makes me. >_< Can't play M games or watch R movies.
I convinced her to let me play Halo though, since it's really like a T.5

i never look at the ratings for movies cus im allowed to watch it.
i look at the ratings of games cus my mom wont let me get rated M games yet.
