Please post your stories. I'm curious! Here's mine.
Today, I got to go to a bunkasai, or a Japanese cultural festival. If you watch anime, think of those episodes where the different classrooms do different things like a haunted house or a maid cafe and so on. If any of you like the anime K-On, you'll remember that the first time the girls performed on-stage was also for a culture festival, specifically the performance of Fuwa Fuwa Time.
One classroom was giving out free shaved ice. I'm used to how shaved ice is made in the US. At the festival today, guess what they used? THIS:

and totally had to point out to one of the people I was with that they have these in Animal Crossing. The way it works is they take a block of ice, put it inside, turn that circle handle/crank on the side, and nice and fluffy snow-like ice (again, COMPLETELY different from how they do it in the US) comes out. They squirt on flavored syrup and you eat. I have never, ever seen one of these used before in real life until today.
