Please, if you care about your villagers wearing custom designs, never ever let anyone shop at your Able's Sisters (well anyone outside of Bell Tree that is)!

While I was TT-ing back and forth for Redd I saw Felicity wearing an outfit that's not in the game. Ran to my Able's and paled at what I saw in the back wall. Someone displayed their design without my permission.

Sure, it's actually a pretty cute dress, but there's no way to get the animals to not wear any custom design now. No matter if I replace it or not. I'm honestly really upset by this. So please, if you are the kind of person that cares about this sort of thing like I am. It's ok to say no if someone ask to shop at your stores.

I saw Eugene wearing it on the title screen, so I'd like to replace the dress with some kind of gender neutral sweater or hoodie as soon as possible. If anyone has any designs like this that they would display at my shop, I'd owe you my life.

FOUND A FIX!
I honestly felt bad... but I reported the custom design at my Ables and it removed the design and returned to the original!

Now I'm unsure this is "worth" to be reported, as the design itself isn't bad, and I'd like to believe there was no bad intention by the one who displayed it. But my thought process was "If I report this and explained, would Nintendo consider doing something about this "feature" (displaying designs at other islands) in the future?"
I do feel bad about reporting the person and I hope they don't actually get in trouble with Big N (and I hope I don't get in trouble for reporting it), but I suppose if you have unwanted designs displayed, you can report them and they will revert back to the original designs.

The same thing happened to me. Someone displayed a shirt and a hat at my shop. I replaced them with my designs, but I made the mistake of using a hat design, so now my villagers will never stop wearing hats when I don't want them to. Talking to Isabelle doesn't even remove hats from them. It only changes their shirt.

I've never put designs on my wall. Out of curiosity could you come to say my island and copy the pattern that they replaced put it on your wall so it would stop? Don't know if this is possible since I don't use the feature?

I'm so sorry someone did that, I have no idea why people would do that kind of thing when visiting someone else's island. It's just rude, and considering how tame the design is I'm guessing they didn't have malicious intent so I don't see why they did it. I always let people visit my nooks and ables during trades but I might start limiting it to just nooks cause I specifically fill my villagers' wardrobes with clothes that suit them so I'd hate for them to wear any custom design at all.

I really wish Nintendo would fix/revamp the "complain about villager" feature. It's such hot garbage that it just doesn't fully reset their wardrobes to fix stuff like this.

I've never heard any confirmation whether this would or would not work. I'd assume not, as you can't display any design that isn't your own. I wouldn't mind trying it out though.

Yeah I'm sure there wasn't any malicious intention. I'm trying to contact the creator. There's nothing that can be done about it now, but I at least want to tell them that it's not cool to do something like this without permission. Wouldn't want anyone else to go through the same heartbreak.
It's probably for the best not to risk it. Or you can keep an eye on them while they shop at the sisters, to make sure they don't display anything you don't want them to.

I wasn't aware this was a thing at all :( I am sorry that someone came and did that to you  Can you override the design with the original or your own. Or once someone has put it down you can't?

Wow, I'm sorry that happened to you. I wish Nintendo would prohibit from people putting their designs on the wall. Like, I get it if you put YOUR designs for others to take, but not the other way around. 😡 It's just plain impolite, especially if it's a design that's "bad" for lack of a better term...

I wonder if you can go to Isabelle to report Felicity and tell her that she's wearing a design you don't like. I think that could make it disappear from their rotating wardrobe?

Just tried it out with the help of faerie, but unfortunately the original can't be displayed...
You can override it with your own design, or someone can display their own design to override it. I'm no good at making custom designed clothing, so I'm hoping to find someone willing to display their work that fits "gender neutral sweater/hoodie", something that all the animals can universally wear.

Reporting to Isabelle won't work entirely. It won't remove it from their wardrobe so they will be right back to wearing it again moments after. With Felicity and Kyle I'm not too worry about because I have their amiibo cards. Can kick them out and bring them back, but it's permanent villagers like Bones, Eugene, Olivia, Cherry and Dobie that worry me. 😰

Someone displayed their design without my permission.
I had this happen early on in the game with an IRL friend. I didn't notice until the group had left, so the game had already saved.

I overwrite the design with a transparent, so my villagers don't bother with it, but it irks me every time I go in the shop to see that blank garment.

I'm sorry this happened to you, and I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Oh this is a good solution though! Thank you for sharing. @Livia You can try this and see if it works out for some of the hat problem?

I actually found a solution for the display, an extreme solution maybe, but I ended up reporting the design and it reverted it back to the original.

Wait.... this could happen?
How come something like this happens without the permission of the island owner?

Yes, it really is baffling that it's a "feature", one that takes control out of the player's hands.

OP please don't feel bad about reporting the design. even if the design itself was tame, what the designer did was not. imagine if they had put up a more inappropriate design instead, the words you would use to describe them and their intent would be different. i hope if you or Nintendo contacts them about their actions or the report, they learn a lesson from this. im glad you've found a solution to this problem, and thankful you shared it with us. i hope no one else comes across this issue in the future, but at least we know there's a fix for it.

Thank you for this. You're right, I would have been much more livid if it was something more inappropriate, either way, both would've upset me at the end of the day.
I'll still try to contact them to at least let them know it's not good to do such things without asking the owner of the island first.
I'll block off the Sisters for users outside of these forums after this scare, but at least there's now a solution that other users can now be aware of and take if something like this happens to them.

I'm glad you found a fix! Don't feel bad about reporting the design. What the person did was not ok. I was just going to say - I'm so sorry someone did that. You were so generous to let people, including me, visit shops at your island. It's rude of them to display their design, no matter the intention, without your permission.
I've been shopping at many islands because I still need a ton of items to complete my clothing catalog. However, unless we've traded a couple times or the person has a high wi-fi rating, now I'm just considering buying catalog services to complete my clothing catalog. Honestly, I've been hesitant to shop at islands sometimes because I don't want the host to feel bad about offering me shopping if another visitor put up a design at their Able's. Anyway, I agree with you - Nintendo should fix/revamp the "complain about villager" feature. It really bothers me when I don't have control over my villagers' wardrobe or they wear something that doesn't fit their style/color theme.

Thank you and yeah, I don't think one would have to worry too much with letting people from the forums come in and leave on their own without any supervision. Everyone here has been really respectful and kind. I don't think any would mind you coming to shop at their islands or to catalog some stuff for free/cheap. You're always welcome to shop at mine, and if you're looking for anything specific, I've got a complete catalog and would be happy to order you some things anytime. 😄

I'm really glad you were able to find a fix for this! I cannot imagine any situation where it would be okay for someone to go to your shop and put up their own design without your permission. What if you had other designs displayed that they could have potentially overwritten and you may have permanently lost. Or maybe you could have just really liked the original designs that were up there. Either way, hearing that happened to you made me sad, so I'm really really glad you found a fix

You really shouldn't feel bad, if anything this reminds the developers that this is a recurring problem, and it lets that user know that it isn't cool to post designs on someone else's island and this way they hopefully won't do it again. Its a win win 😊

I'm so glad you found a solution! I wonder if that would work in my shop, although I'd probably have to get someone else to report it, since I don't think you can self-own?

I don't want this happened to my dear Felicity. Anyway, I am glad that you were able to fix it and found a solution. Thanks for sharing! I will keep this in mind if some of my visitors wanted to shop in my Able Sisters.
