when i return from a island why do i get nook miles?

When I leave an island and return to mine, sometimes i'll get NMTs and sometimes I wont. is there a reason for this?

I think that is where they take the usage of "Frequent Flyers" program literally. I'm not sure why you get it sometimes and not others, maybe you can only get it a certain number of times per day to prevent farming?

thank god you explained this i thought i was crazy for only getting miles half the time

I think you only get it once a day? when i visit my brother more than once a day i only get miles for the first visit.
