When does the town "Update"?

Sometimes when I wake up early enough in the morning (5:00 A.M) and open up the game. Some of the flowers from the day before are still sparkling, there are no fossil holes, and the trees haven't grown yet and/or not bearing any fruit yet. I am wondering when the game updates and actually starts a new day.

Thank you! I wonder if you stay in a building till 6:00 A.M and if you walk outside, if the town would update (that would be creepy 0-o)

I always wanted to be awake at 6am while outside just to see it update, but I never wake up on time.

I feel like the update would only change when inside a building, since it could possibly cause glitches if the update happening outside (and that is assuming that the update will even occur while playing).

If it changes to 6am while you're playing, the screen will fade to black, there'll be a morning announcement from Isabelle, then you'll reappear outside of your house like when you first load up the game. You have to be outside though, if you're inside the day won't change until you leave the building! (Only know this from times I've stayed up all night playing, have never actually woken up that early haha)

When it is 6am, Isabelle would announce "It's time to rise and shine"

6am. your upper DS screen will turn black when it hits 6am in the game. it will not update while you just stand there.
