When does the streetpass count?

Do you have to visit the Streetpass area, in order for it to count?

I was playing as my second character a few days ago, I closed my 3DS and got a streetpass notification.
Does this mean that the streetpass tag goes to my second character, or does it only count if you visit the Streetpass area?

It will only count if you talk to the human in the Showcase. You do not have to view their TPC or visit their home.

One of my towns only visited the showcase 10 times and got the streetpass bronze badge.
Someone posted that the house in the showcase gets the tag. Not who opens the game.
So if your mayor house is in the showcase you should get the tag.

I thought it was the player that opened the game that got the tag. They really should have explained it better.

You don't have to talk to the human in the HHS, you just have to receive their house data. ONLY Animal Crossing tags count toward the 1,000, and ONLY the ones who show up in the HHS plaza. So, you can get a tag from someone playing it, but unless they turn on their streetpass, and give you their house, no tag for you!
