Sunshine. It was unique, fun, the music was great, the characterization, while simple, was memorable, and the game is EXTREMELY nostalgic for me. I also like that it, unlike the Galaxy games, involved freely exploring instead of going down a semi-linear path.
However, if you can count Mario games not made by Nintendo, then Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door takes the cake. It's the best Paper Mario so far and one of the greatest games of all time. The art style is just perfect, as is the gameplay. The story is pretty good (though I definitely prefer the almost heartbreaking story of Super Paper Mario), the music is incredible and it has a decent amount of replay value. Not to mention it is just so memorable; you REMEMBER the characters and how they act and their names on a level that you don't see often in games. There needs to be another Paper Mario like this game. However, I don't want Paper Mario to take the same path as the regular Mario games or Mario Kart (releasing games with little to no innovation) so there should still be differences.
This is hard, but I guess if I had to choose super mario sunshine or mario karts wii. I haven't played all mario games so from what I have played those are my favorite. c: but I will definitely haft to check out some of these other games people like!
