I have been wondering since I got here... why do people buy/sell flowers?
I think I did it once - no actually I traded my Jacob's Ladders for furniture. But it really is weird to me. It would never have occured to me that members would actually buy hybrids or sell them.
To me, there could be two explanations:

First hypothesis: people just suck at growing flowers and have no luck getting the hybrids they want... in which case, it is normal to ask someone else to give some, or trade for other hybrids. It makes sense. But making people pay... for flowers?! A bunch grows everyday, why not just give them for free? Or just as a tip, I don't know. I once traded my blue roses for some purple pansies because I couldn't obtain any after many tries... but selling? How weird.

Second hypothesis: people are just not patient at all... But it doesn't make any sense: why would you have the time to gather thousands of bells, and no time to press the A button four times a day to water your flowers...? And a lot of people TT too, so it really confuses me.

I can kind of understand selling very rare flowers that you can't actually cultivate (if I may say so), like Jacob's Ladders, clovers, or the very rare carnations. But the rest... I don't. And the prices can be huge! I wouldn't even want to pay 1k for a flower, and sometimes they go for 99k?! Wow.

I just wanted to know if I am the only one that was surprised by the value given to hybrids, or do I just not understand that this is a good way to make money or earn some time? :<

Fell like I have to say it, I don't want to offend anyone, you do what you want with your money and flowers, you know? I really couldn't care less; your life, your game! It's just weird to me ^^

I suck at it, so I buy a few hybrids from someone to be able to breed my own.
I've tried breeding a bunch of hybrids before, but with some of them I have really crap luck.

Bells are way easy to earn in this game, and hybrids, even if you know how to breed them and especially if you don't TT, can take a while to get a lot, since you can only get a certain number per day.

I was also surprised. I like doing all that myself!
I do like my hybrids though. I am placing all of mine around the fountain. I am not trying to get them and just do things with them when I get them, I am also shocked.

Some people want a lotttttt for their towns so your second hypothesis does make a measure of sense, because it's somewhat easier to earn bells than to try to grow specific hybrids when you want like 100+ to decorate your town with. :B And as long as there's a demand there's sellers, but I know what you mean about prices, I don't buy hybrids if I can help it and I'd never pay 99k one, but I've seen a lot of people do just that. ouo

I think from what I have seen that others have the same issue I do in that they get mostly one or two colors of hybrids and the colors aren't the one they want. Like blue is my favorite color but I get mostly pink. I have never felt like buying hybrids though, I have sold some and I do like to use them to tip along with baskets of perfect fruit :)

I don't have time to check daily and arrange my flowers a certain way so I prefer to just buy them. I only buy blue flowers or more rare hybrids, though. I've grown blue roses on my own and... ick, no thanks. I'm too busy to put that much attention into growing them when I can just go to the island, catch bugs, and get the money to buy four blue roses on the forums.
...also I want a lot of rare hybrids to match my town's color coordination x_x

So no luck is an answer (it just happens I guess...) and yeah no patience, in a certain way.
But really I agree with you guys, it's easier to make bells than to breed, that's for sure. But I'm like MoeTheCatFan concerning hybrids ^^

I understand the appeal in wanting to breed your own hybrids. While I'm personally not big on hybrid breeding (mainly since I don't TT -- I do plan on getting a second town soon in which I will TT, and being able to breed hybrids quickly was one of the main motivations behind that, haha), I am surprised when I see for example, people scrambling to enter huge bell giveaways, or paying others to landscape their towns, because earning bells and landscaping are things I like to do myself. But hey people enjoy different aspects of the game and that's fine. :)

I'm running out of room for hybrid-breeding patches, so sometimes it's easier to buy the ones I want to complete a project rather than re-arranging my town to breed them.
I still have large patches for roses and lilies...but space is just getting too scarce :o

I'm really just too lazy to breed hybrids. I already have a lot of bells stacked up. And originally, I didn't care about hybrids since I wanted all my dreamies to move in first. I could try breeding hybrids, but I don't TT anymore and again, I'm lazy. xD

People are too lazy or impatient to breed their own hybrids and the people selling them don't mind TTing and take advantage of 'em. That's my theory, at least.

Yeah, you're totally right :) And I don't like TTing so much in my main town either.

Have you tried breeding on the beach, or is there no room either? x)

I used to breed my own but when it came to the point that I need 20+ of a certain breed, I would just buy them from people. Laziness and impatience, yup. Hybrids are also a nice way to make a little bit of money ^^ I'll probably start selling my extras soon haha.

It's easier to buy them. If I have money and need 50 Pink Roses, I'm not going to breed them. That'd take days of TTing, plus you'd have to check your villagers to see if any were moving.

personally i've bought hybrids in the past because when i'm landscaping an area i like to do it all at once rather than little-by-little, so once i decide what colors i want it's a lot easier to buy them in bulk on a forum rather than tt over and over and risk losing one of my villagers and still not always be guaranteed to get the colors i need. [shrugs]

I'm way too lazy, especially since only a few grow per day, even with the beautiful ordinance. I'd rather just buy in bulk with bells, which are easier to earn.

But it really didn't surprise anyone else besides me, that so many people actually do a business out of flowers? If it's natural for everyone else then I guess I'm the one who's bizarre :P
