Currently my weather app on my phone has indicated that it is "smoke" outside. There are about 110 wildfires actively burning 400 kilometers outside my city and all the smoke is being blown here. It was so bad yesterday, there was an air quality warning sent out, less than 2 kilometer visibility, and just gross outside. Worst part is there is no rain in the forecast. I've experienced tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, freezing weather, extremely hot weather, wind storms, but never anything like this.

I've attached a photo that was taken yesterday. The two images are 12 hours apart.

So what's the weirdest or scariest weather situation you have been in?

That must be horrible.. I bet everything must stink of smoke, no?

Worst weather we get on the south coast of England is just some days it's really foggy here, from the sea fog that blows into the city.

I live in south east England, and... I remember like several years ago we had this sudden CRAZY thunderstorm out of no where. It thundered and rained so heavily, and there were massive bolts of lightning. Then we suddenly heard loud thudding sounds. Well, sort of thudding. But I can't even describe it. We look outside and see hailstones the size of MARBLES. It was just... Crazy. I had never experienced that sort of weather in my life before. I'm pretty sure my dad uploaded the video to YouTube a while ago, so if I can find a video I'd show you because it was just so... Unlike English weather. xD It was a bit scary! I remember my mum was sweeping up all the hail stones into a pile and it was just... crazy.

Either a hurricane or a time when we had a snowstorm that left us without power for about a week and the snow level was at mid door level, on a porch.

It smells like a sweet cherry wood burning, it was awful. Everyone in my building, including myself, had headaches by the end of the day. Thankfully it's not as bad today.

No power for a week!? Oh god, I can't even last 4 hours without power - I can't imagine a week.

I've been in two hurricanes, a few tropical storms and one tornado. I've also had it so hot where I could fry an egg outside

hurricane sandy lmao
the streets were flooded, it was hella windy, and a tree ripped out from the front of the next door neighbors house and was basically flying up and down the street the entire time i think
two houses on my street had the fronts entirely like demolished, the people that lived in them had to move out of their houses for a while while they got fixed
it also broke like three windows in my house, the wind was so strong
not to mention we lost power for about a week and a half so we went to stay with family in another state
that was pretty awful lmao

One time lightning hit very close to our house and set all of our burglar alarms off. We couldn't shut them off for like an hour. I'm terribly scared of thunder and lightning now.

I don`t consider it scary, but I`ve been in some real bad thunderstorms, especially on vacation in the Czech Republic. Between the mountains that really becomes loud and the flashes were huge (beautiful really). However, when your on holiday sleeping in a tent, it does feel a little overwhelming.

Doing a paperroute was worse with seriously freezing weather, as someone from Holland with a very moderate seaclimate, I`m not used to that type of Polar weather.....

I hope things will clear up for you though, that seems way worse. Suffocating in that kind of air, with fires arround you sounds intense. But I`m sure the authoraties are doing the best they can.

we never have scary weather in my city, worst thing was my power went out for a day but other people's power went out for like a week and some ended up homeless... same state, but a few miles away

I was vacationing in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida when Hurricane Katrina hit. We were staying on the 24th floor of our hotel and I recall the room shaking pretty violently when the winds first started to pick up. The hotel ended up evacuating us down to the basement floor for the majority of the night, and the hotel lost power for nearly the entire night/early morning so it was almost pitch blackness. When we were able to go back to our room, some patio furniture had blown onto our balcony and I could see a few broken windows on nearby buildings. I still consider myself pretty lucky to have been hit by Katrina when it was only a category 1 hurricane, especially when you consider how much damage was done once it went over the Gulf and hit New Orleans. :(

There was also a tornado that touched down about five miles from my house around two years ago, and it completely destroyed a good portion of a nearby subdivision. I could actually see the funnel cloud from the front window of my house.

I really don't have any scary weather stories. I live in Southern California, the only real weather we get here is hot as all hell BUT I do have a weird/awful weather story.

I was in middle school, so I want to say it was about 9 years ago? There were these horrible fires in the mountains, as there usually are in the hot times of the year here, but they were worse then usual. After a few days of the fires burning, Santa Ana winds decide "Hey! It's not my time of year but lol I do want I want" and started blowing all of the ashes from the mountains into the city. It was SNOWING ASHES IN 110 DEGREE WEATHER and I mean there was a thick layer of ashes on everything outside. Everyone was getting sick from breathing all that junk in. Matter of fact, I had to be sent home from school because I legitimately couldn't handle it (I was an asthma kid to begin with, no bueno.). It was terrible. I wanna say it went on for a couple of days. Ugh.

i guess it's not really weather as it is a natural disaster, however it does count as weather since it was like extremely hot one day. it was dry for a loong time, really hot (as i stated perviously) and in california not too long ago wildfires were starting and there were a bunch of them and i remember being able to smell it. it was gross. the drought here is at its worst i guess :(

I'm in the north of England so usually the worst we get is rain and wind.

Last year we had some really strong wind and awful rain though. Like we get loads of rain anyway but this was really bad rain. The wind broke fences and knocked down a few trees etc and the rain flooded a few small areas, enough to cause a lot of roads to be closed. Most of it wasn't really that bad since fences could be replaced and fallen trees moved, but I saw one tree that landed in somebodies upstairs window.

I remember it because I was trying to get home at the time, so I was stood in the middle of it. It was also a night where I didn't have a jacket...

When I was younger we had Tropical Storm Allison (my name) that flooded my area and knocked out our power for a couple days. Then later in life, there was Hurricane Rita. It destroyed Galveston TX and it hit my area pretty hard, I live about an hour or so north of Galveston. There were trees knocked over and houses were damaged. We went without power for 2 weeks and I was kinda excited because they cancelled school for a while.

The weather has been pretty bad lately with that huge Houston flood and flooding in the area of my university, but it has definitely been worse. Also, I'm in Texas, so when it's not storming, it's blazing hot. Love the weather here....

We were visiting our friend's cottage and it started hailing out of nowhere during our summer visit. It was the size of baseballs.

The wind was really bad, too.

I live in Washington State in USA. It rarely snows here but it dumped a lot a couple years ago. It was practically an ice storm and our city shut down for about two weeks. The ice was so thick that it was snapping trees left and right (and Washington has a lot of trees). A tree almost hit our house haha. It was pretty darn scary.

I was going on a campout when I had just turned 12. My group had gone as far as Prescott, Arizona when we turned off to go to our campground. It was already raining and as we were going down the dirt road, my car had fish-tailed, then a little bit later, the storm had gotten so bad, our leader had stopped in front of us. We were just sitting, thinking about how bad it was going to be setting up our tents when suddenly a bolt of lightning struck the hill directly behind us. As soon as that happened, I instantly started panicking.

A few weeks later in Phoenix, my family and I went in for breakfast at a Mimi's Caf?. It was already raining lightly that morning and it was slowly getting worse the longer we stayed there. As we ate, we kept hearing lightning in the distance. As it crept closer to our location, it eventually got so close that it was practically over our heads. Lightning struck close by once again, this time, it knocked out power for a brief second.

There was a brief period in 2004 where there was a funnel cloud a few blocks away. We luckily only had light hail as it never touched down.
