im so over cottagecore and ironically, my island has a large part that is cottagecore. 90% islands i see on social media are themed after cottagecore, if not fairycore.

im thinking either the autumn theme or urban theme
I don´t think that there are that many possible 'cores' in the game... probably also the reason why Nooks Cranny isn´t expanding. The lack of (different) items would be much more obvious if there was a bigger store.
We have a lot of flowers, wood-stuff and decorations that are "nature-themed". There is only a limited amount of things one can go for.
Most people already use autum stuff. A few more might do so in a few months but I doubt that it will become its own thing. Urban is possible but there are definetely not enough items in the game right now to really decorate the whole island that way.
I think it will depend on the next patch(es). If we really get something to farm and harvest crops - as some people hope for - then farming might be the next big thing.
urban and japanese-core is becoming popular as well!
honestly the only problem I have with urban-core is the need for so many items to make it look like a city. I agree that there aren't a lot of items to make a sustainable urban theme without the island lagging like hell.
