What's happening to my villagers' furniture?

I guess my villagers keep selling their furniture, particularly their beds. Now all their houses are empty and/or ugly.

I now know that when you give them something, like a fish or piece of furniture, it ends up in their house, and that you can buy furniture from them if they invite you over. So I've stopped that, but why is everyone still getting rid of their beds?!

At first, I didn't care at all. But after joining this forum and seeing how some of you are perfectionists with your town, has anyone figured out if you can reset their house, or how to stop them from randomly getting rid of things? It just feels weird that I'll have a villager I love... but all that's in their house is an oil drum and a black bass in a tank...

"So how does my house look?"

Uhh...

I don't think there's anything you can practically do. However, you might as well buy those beds and send them as a gift to the villagers. Chances are, they're going to use them in their homes.

You could try filling Re-Tail up with items so they won't have any room to sell their stuff ^^;

I do this too when they try to get rid of an important piece of furniture from their homes. I think also mailing an item to a villager prompts them to put it in their homes, I sent Flurry a lovely chair and she put it out the next day. Not sure if it's guaranteed to work though.

You can always buy their item from Re-Tail and relist it, then when that particular villager comes into the store I try to push them towards it until they ping in front of it. Even if they ping on another item you can still push them towards the right one and they'll recognise it too.

Ikr, this is the reason why I always have my pockets full of 100 coins or something else that villagers dont want, this way they cant give you their items, I guess you can try that :P

I fill Retail with ore. If they buy ore, it never ends up in their house. If I slip up and they put a piece of their furniture in Retail, I buy it and then drop it on the ground outside their house. When they ask for a piece of furniture, I will give them that. I've heard that if you give it to them while they're in their house, they will place it right away.

If they invite me to see their home, I try to buy the odd item that doesn't belong (usually clothing).

I feel your pain. Before I did all this, one of my villagers got down to just a shirt in her house. I tried and tried to give her furniture, but she would always get rid of it right away. The above method isn't perfect, but it greatly helps.

Yea my villagers kept filling up their house with ugly fish and bugs, so I just kept mailing them furniture that were the same size and buying the ugly stuff when they invited me over. I also don't complete their bug/fish requests, though one time I said no to beau and the next day I saw that he had gone out and caught a ugly fish to display in his house himself!!!! >:^(

I've had some put their items in retail and i'd buy it and mail it back to them

I fill re-tail with flowers priced at 999k bells, so they're never going to be bought. That way they never get rid of their furniture if there's no space for them to sell them there P: I also don't do requests that involve giving them furniture or fish or bugs, so that way their houses will always remain original unless I feel like redecorating them myself (by sending them things in the mail). I'm just a perfectionist and I like to have control over what they display in their homes!

Thanks for all the help! You guys are pros, haha :) I feel super bad turning down villager requests. Is there no consequence to doing that?

If the villagers want to get rid of something, they will. It doesn't really matter if your pockets are full or if Re-Tail is full either. Rudy had a customized bed I gave him, and he had it for a long while and then one day I went in to his house and it was replaced by a blue bed. It's not in retail, I didn't buy it from him or got it as a gift because I know his bed was customized, I wouldn't have accepted it. It's just part of the game for villagers to cycle through furniture.
I've tried constantly getting villagers to keep their stuff, sending back items as gifts, but they always end up getting rid of it.

You don't actually need to deny a request :) I always say yes to them but later I don't do it if they asked for a bug or afish. Only sometimes if they asked for furniture, then I try to give them back something they originally had.

I can confirm they don't randomly swap out furniture. I've tted years ahead without doing any requests and with re-tail full and their houses always remained original.
