Could anyone explain an OC to me?
What are they used for?
How do I create one?
Are there any requirements to an OC?

These are all serious questions, just need a little more information :3

I can try to explain, though I'm a bit exhausted at present so I apologize if anything I say is incoherent. :)

An OC (original character) is a character that someone has created themselves. They're normally given a back story, a detailed appearance, and personality traits.
What are they used for?
Many things! Some people create stories around them or use them for RPing, while others have "personas" or OCs that are somehow reminiscent of themselves (like an alter ego of sorts). I've also encountered people who just like to look at art of their OCs and don't really "use" them for anything other than appreciating them for aesthetic purposes.
How do I create one?
Just use your imagination. You can essentially base an OC off of anything that inspires you. There are also many artists who design OCs and put them up for a sort of adoption, where a buyer would pay to have the OC and all rights to the design. I've also seen people create an "OC" from a preset base or chibi maker, but I hesitate to call those a genuine OC due to the fact that it's not their original idea.
Are there any requirements to an OC?
Definitely not. Only those that exist within the boundaries of your mind, and of course it must be YOUR original design or adopted by you. :)

1. OC are original characters, made and desgined by the creator themselves
2. They have many uses! Some have an OC for their story, some for roleplaying, others just like designing a character.
3. You just make one! People who can draw would usually draw it and share it with other people, while those who don't may commission another artist to draw it for them. They may get references from other, existing character, use a random character maker, or draw it themselves.
4. Probably one, which is it must be original. You can't claim someone else's character as your own. Though an exception to this are adoptables, where people would design a character and other people may buy that design to make it theirs.

I'm typing this on phone so I can't explain it in detail, so I hope this helps!

Thank you both so much, especially for such a detailed answer ^^
I see lots of them on the forum and would love to create my own but yeah I just wanted to be sure of everything.
If I have anymore questions, I'll be sure to ask either of you ^_^
