What would you do?

So there are scammers on Club Tortimer islands. Of course.
But there are also rare items.
When these two come together (which seems to happen often), I have a dilemma.

Do you think it's worth it to give scammers a bit of money just so you can get your items without them cutting the wifi on you?

Begging for money and trying to get you to drop things so they can "catalog" them is completely wrong of them...but when the box of chocolates and the yellow aloha shirt are on the same island...

Then again, why should you "spend" bells to get these things when you're already spending your precious medals...

I don't know. This is probably the hardest thing I've come across in the game :/ Thoughts?

i would just probably tell them to eff off and let them cut me off. you can probably just find someone on here thats selling those items anyways besides they might still cut you off even if you give them bells

If I give them bells and they cut me off, they won't have the bells anymore. Though I'm sure some of them still wouldn't think that through.
I know I could find those things here, but sometimes it takes a while. If I see them there, I want them then, you know?

yeah ik but i agree with melsi also on the point that if you give them bells they'll just bug more people about it. even like 10 year olds or something (although the people scamming are probably 10 lol) i would rather take a screenshot of their tpc and post it on tumblr so people know that they're a scammer

Ah, I didn't think of screenshotting it. I'll make sure to do that next time (I hate that I can't even say "if it happens again" because it will :/)

This annoys me so much, I get a lot of stick as I am 55 but love this game and have all my medals so when they ask everyones age I don't lie but then I get nasty things said to me, don't know if I may be better to lie and say 12. It is getting rare on the Island not to get wi fi flicked now which is sad, I have 2DS so you can't flick wi fi button on that anyway. If I see something I really want I buy it and leave straight away rather than risk loosing it.

is it weird that when i see a nice item on the island, the person always happens to be catching bugs or vice versa, and if i want to empty the island i go on tour? or is that just a rare coincidence and im just lucky

rare items or not, i wouldn't facilitate scammers in any way, shape, or form. i would feel as though i'm indirectly fueling them to scam even more, and it does not seem worth losing my integrity over. that's merely my take on it though, and i reserve judgement on whatever you end up doing. good luck~!

Well, if someone starts a tour, you can't leave the island without flipping the switch. And naturally, once a tour is started, everyone has to be sitting to start it.
So if they start a tour and never sit down, you're stuck there unless you flip the switch.

I've left the island before while someone was out on a tour I didn't go to... It doesn't affect leaving at all.
I've never experienced the sitting down thing though, so maybe that is true, but can't you just sit down to go on the tour and once you come back go straight to the desk and ask to go home?

That's my point. They start the tour and they never sit down. Without them sitting, you can't leave. If they want to scam you, they'll start the tour and just needlessly harass you, since you can't go anywhere without flipping the switch.

I love the idea of screenshotting their TPCs and posting on a community like Tumblr and even a sticky in this forum to warn against scammers. I don't know if there's already a place on TBT where the community advertises the cheats and scammers in general but if enough people do this it should totally become a thing.

Damn so even if you sit down the tour doesn't start until they do if they started the tour? There should be a time limit to sit down or something, that's kinda lame.
