We're a matter of weeks away from the last update of the first year of the game, and there's bound to be some kind of tease for the next update in March.
So, aside from the Mario 35th anniversary items... what do you think's coming?
I'm going to go for my trademark "LOTS OF STUFF IS COMING, GUYS" but I feel it's more justified this time around now that there aren't any event NPCs left to be added in, only visiting/residential NPCs:
Firstly, yup, I feel Brewster's FINALLY being added in, along with craftable gyroids and a further museum upgrade (probably with the museum shop, although idk who's going to run it)... I'm also thinking you'll be able to get the food and drink items the villagers hold through him?
Even though ninji said that the third Nook's Cranny upgrade was actually just the tent form, I'm also feeling there's going to be another Nook store upgrade, along with a lot more new furniture, potentially including ceiling furniture?
I'm also feeling there's going to be a load of new crafting recipes added into the game, alongside some new stuff to craft with young spring bamboo/acorns and pine cones like the new snowflake/summer shell DIYs...
A slightly different version of Bunny Day with some new DIYs to craft.
Anniversary Cake item as thanks for updating the game
I also feel there's gonna be more things coming to the island at some point next year, but not immediately... just over the course of the next year.
I look forward to being proved wrong in a couple of months time, however!
Ninji is only able to see what already exists in the game code. So nothing really rules out getting a new Nook's Cranny expansion. I'm definitely hoping for one in the January update. The new shop, if there should be one, should work like New Leaf with part of it being a permanent place for Leif.
If we get the museum gift shop back, it should be ran by Celeste.
For the first anniversary, I'd like it to be a bit of a huge udpate: Brewster, gyroids, Kapp'n and island tours, return of missing items, more house exterior options, Nook's Cranny upgrades, Club LOL, Police Station, etc. Mario items returning does not really mean fortune cookies are back, but I would love that too.
But to keep expectations at a minimum, I just want Brewster, gyroids and Kapp'n back.
I'd love to see Brewster back as many would in an update, and an expansion for the nook store, though I don't think it'll be an expansion like we've seen before, as a lot of the things which would be in the further expansions of the store, are in separate things/are unneeded now. I'd love to see Celeste in a larger role, I don't think they'd bring back the constellations of previous games, but I also don't want to see her relegated to a position in the gift shop. I think a space exhibit in the museum would be lovely, like history of space exploration, constellations etc, and you contribute normal star frags to get extra stuff in the exhibit.
It seems like all the big update announcements have included an NPC, so I am expecting an NPC, but I'm not sure who. I know everyone wants Brewster, but there are other NPCs still missing too (Kapp'n, Tortimer, etc), so it could be any of them.
My guess is that if Brewster isn't in the January update, he will be in the Anniversary one, and the Bunny Day event will get a major overhaul.
BUT... my dream update for the Anniversary focuses completely around upgrading the Nooklings shop and would go like this:
>Update adds the capacity to begin a 3rd and 4th expansion. 3rd will probably be immediately ready for us since most of us have already spent a fortune there, and once it is upgraded, Gracie will start showing up.
>Gracie starts showing up and doing Catalog checks. The more you have in your catalog, the more pleased she is and is able to suggest a final update to the Nooklings. It is random if she will suggest it, like a new camper, but the higher the amount of items in your catalog, the higher the chance for her to suggest the upgrade. If she doesn't suggest this time, she will give you a piece of a new Gracie line of clothing (will be available in store as well, so if you got her to upgrade before she gave you all of the pieces, you can still buy from her).
>Gracie has a new assistant who gets their own section of the store. Each day they offer you a new piece of "vintage" furniture which is a piece of furniture returning from previous games not in New Horizons yet, such as the Alpine, Rococo, etc sets. I'd really love for Lottie to return and it would be cute if she could be the assistant but I doubt they could work her with Gracie.
>Third Nookling Expansion adds fortune cookies again which is how we get the Mario items. Ideally fortune cookies would also introduce Pocket Camp Items but I'm not sure how to work them in yet.
I just really want Gracie back. I really couldn't care less about Brewster and the Cafe, I just want the Gracie sets and clothing back.
>Third Nookling Expansion adds fortune cookies again which is how we get the Mario items. Ideally fortune cookies would also introduce Pocket Camp Items but I'm not sure how to work them in yet.
really hoping on this one as well, love the idea of bringing more (PC) items into NH through fortune cookies - it's about time we get some of 'em back.
i'm really hoping they will bring back brewster, gyroids, gracie, NL special villagers (wolf link, epona, sanrio etc)
also it would be amazing if we could decorate the exterior of the plaza/airport
there's already loads we can do to decorate our islands so surely we should be able to redecorate the buildings too
(as well as the shape of the player house)
i'm fine with nooks cranny not upgrading further because it's current design fits my island, however i've noticed a lot of people do want it upgraded so maybe there should be a bigger selection on the inside and u can choose to redecorate the exterior
so basically there is loads i want added to this game and they might bring a lot back, but based on recent updates, i highly doubt any they would
they will most likely just set off fireworks and give u a "1 year anniversary" furniture item or something
hopefully i'm wrong and they will add loads of new stuff or bring back old stuff but at this point idk
Since they've already introduced a few new relatives, the museum gift shop could be run by Blathers and Celeste's younger bespectacled brother Alistair.
I would like them to throw a first birthday party
Some little event like that where you could collect special items/furniture to decorate your island.
I’m sure pocket camp does things for their anniversary
I think after the January update we may be able to manage our expectations a little better, but for now I really am hoping for something fairly large, either in terms of the quality of the update or the quantity of things they add. like everyone else I'm really hoping to see Brewster back, and a Nook's expansion is sorely needed at this point considering it upgraded to the point it's at now after only 30 days. this would be a good time to bring in Gracie, and then maybe Labelle will stop doing her fashion checks.
anniversary-specific, I think we'll get some kind of item in the mail (most likely a cake I guess), and perhaps Nook/Isabelle will mention something about it being a year since Nook decided to start offering the getaway package? other than that I don't really want to make any massive predictions and get my hopes up before seeing we get nothing lol
I don’t think Nintendo has any plans to make any of the traveling NPCs permanent. I think we’re more likely to get not yet used NPCs as either permanent (like Brewster and The Roost or Gracie moving in above Nookling’s) or as additional traveling ones.
I also don’t think a Nook’s Cranny is coming either unfortunately. There are so few items we are able to get in the shop in comparison to NL and other games, that I think a bigger store with more options would only further show how limited the selection is. However, in the highly unlikely chance they do upgrade the shop, I would hope that this upgrade either comes hand in hand with many new items and/or access to color varieties of items that we previously couldn’t find on our island.
My main belief if that Nintendo is more likely to add new characters, shops, and items than alter existing ones. However, I could see them updating mechanics because they have in past with bug and fish spawn rates, Bunny Day egg spawns, and the like.
To me the most realistic things to expect in a one year update are:
-Brewster
-Update to both online and local multiplayer
-Update to dialogue (as in making it so other dialogue shows up first and villagers don’t always start with the same things, not necessarily adding anything new)
-Update to villagers interacting with the world around them. Maybe so they sit in a chair you placed rather than on the ground right in front of it.
-New shrubs and/or flowers
-Some sort of update to the Nook Miles Islands MAYBE
-Villagers visiting your house
-Some new items but mostly ceiling items.
