What villager balance do you feel is best for a town?

Hmm, you can get a uchi and another normal or lazy type! Unless you are looking for their specific item they suggest for public work projects~ or if you want to make a new start, you could try for 1 of each type of villagers

I would get some uchies for the PWPs. And get a snooty as well. They suggest modern PWPs.

I usually enjoy more than one snooty, peppy and cranky. I think because they are my favorite villagers.

I have two crankies and two normals, because I don't have a peppy. You'll always repeat at least one personality. It's fun to have a balanced town, lots of different dialogue! Good luck! (-:

I have one of each personality for PWP requests, gossip and dialogue diversity.

I have two normals and lazies because, Zucker and Gladys are too cute to resist ?ᴥ?.

Well I currently have:
2 Crankies (Cyrano, Lobo)
2 Peppies (Pinky, Pippy)
2 Jocks (Bam, Pierce)
2 Lazies (Elmer, Beau)
1 Snooty (Violet)
1 Normal (Goldie)

This means I have no Smug or Uchi...

I do kinda feel like I should have at least one of each but like you I struggle on letting anyone go.

If they make you happy then keep them, if they don't then let them go. That's how I would choose (but I would definitely lose one of the Peppies, 3 is slightly excessive!)

I like to have at least one villager of each personality. If you're going for an energetic town, however, it looks like you have a good start!

Granada: 3 normal (Lolly, Maple and Sydney), 1 lazy, 1 peppy, 1 jock, 1 smug, 1 uchi, 1 cranky, 1 snooty
Croydon: 2 normal (Aurora and Lolly), 2 jock (Bud and Iggly), 1 lazy, 1 peppy, 1 smug, 1 uchi, 1 cranky, 1 snooty

Overall: 5 normal, 4 jock, 4 cranky, 4 snooty, 3 lazy, 3 peppy, 3 smug, 3 uchi

I pick whatever villagers I like. I don't care if they're all the same personality type.

I currently have three lazies, one peppy, two cranky, two smug, one jock and one snooty.

I seriously need an uchi just for the pwps, but I'm not really missing their personalities.

If it's personality types we're talking about: one for each personality type, then make it 2 for your favorite personality types. If you don't like a personality type, then don't pick a villager with that personality type and add the 1 spot to another personality type you like. But if you like a villager's design so much even if you don't like the personality type, you should go get him/her!

You can also base the villager balance by size! For example: 2 very small villagers (like mice and squirrels), 4 regular-sized villagers (like rabbits, monkeys, birds, and deer), 2 tall villagers (like wolves and ostriches), and 2 huge villagers (like gorillas and hippos). In my first 2 towns, I based my town balance in size.

I picked my villagers mostly based on looks for my all cat town, and it does annoy me at times when Punchy, Bob, and Moe say the same things. I also miss having an uchi (I didn't like Katt's looks though) and a smug villager.
