Yeah, she's really sweet. Hopefully I can build my friendship up enough that she'll request something.
There's the sandbox PWP, that could kind of be a litter box for your cat town. 
I think that would be cute rather than gross, though if you wanted to make it funny, you could put a rare mushroom on top. (The rare mushrooms look like...uh...something you'd find in a litter box.)
One thing that takes up plenty of space and would be fun for visitors (and you) is to set up a Sumo ring--it's a game explained *Here*, that is a lot of fun. I've never had room in my own towns to set one up. Of course, you could call the game something other than Sumo if you wanted. There are lots of other ACNL games at that link that could also fill up the space.

I think putting all the different types of beds and benches your villagers request all together in one area might be kinda cute and unique, like a giant lazy place for all your cats to hang out since cats really like to sleep and chill all day. You could even put a sign that says something about Cat Naps or something so people get the idea.

Alas, though, I checked and apparently you can't place an object on the sandbox? I mean, I checked my friend's flowerbed PWP, which I think behaves the same way--you can walk on it, but can't place an object on it (except of course you can plant something in the flowerbed). You could place a rare mushroom next to the sandbox, of course...
