What type of aesthetics do you like in your town(s)?
Such as, for me I like more spacious layouts with straight paths. I like any theme (girly, zen, natural, modern towns, doesn't matter if it looks good!), and I prefer if the villager homes are lined up in pairs. I always try to plot my villagers with a neighbor!
A lot of people like that really "clustered" tightly packed with plants look, and skinny paths that lead you all over the place. I think a lot of times too, that ends up being that way for people who don't care much about villager and pwp placement and just like to decorate around what they got.
It's too messy for me, though!

I prefer slightly wider/more spaced out stuff, at least for my personal towns xD Like 2-tile wise patterns, houses decently spaced- Stardust, one of my towns, wound up with a couple great areas for 2 sets of 4 houses, but without them having to be clustered right up against each other. I do like a degree of organization, but I also like to allow for /some/ looseness here and there... xD Organized chaos I guess.

That's how I feel too!
What do you look for when choosing a map? I like the south slope to be vertical, and my past 2 towns, I was incredibly anal that Re-Tail must be directly above it within distance leading up to the door, and town hall had to be lined up above the town plaza, and be located as close as possible to the railroad, AND have a river with as few corners as possible.
My current town isn't perfectly lined up or anything but at least my paths are and I find that I love this town more with it's slight imperfections. I worked hard to make it look as good as it does now anyway.

I’m not /too/ picky about building placements, myself xD I mostly like having a lot of space- not too many ponds, a fairly tidy river (I don’t like weirdly cut off sections or it to be super winding/wildly uneven spaces; I don’t mind much either way how it might split the turn though xD)... I /prefer/ southern waterfalls and held on to that in Stardust; but Callisto’s eastern one fits nicely ^^ I prefer at least s little spacing out of the Plaza, Town Hall & Re-Tail, just as long as it doesn’t all feel super clumped together xD

Rock and pond placements are my biggest dealbreakers tbh, that or villagers set up too close to where I want to make my initial build- I love setting up near the end of river waterfall xD There’s always some things I’d prefer (I love a beach ramp lined up as a straight shot from the train station), but it’s near impossible to find something that’ll fit every desire, and I’ll very much compromise on some of those little things for a nice wide open map w/lots of space to build and plant xD

I felt like with my current town I compromised a lot but I ended up loving it still and so much more in the end because I put in more work to make it functional for me and that's what really matters though.
The rocks and ponds thing is a deal breaker for me too. I really don't like any rocks in the way of where I would lay down a path. That drives me bonkers! I've found so many perfect towns but once I find a rock or pond completely sitting in front of retail or town hall, I cry.

But also my experience with my last 2 towns is that, because they were so perfect, I had no challenge in putting it together. So I got bored of them easily!

Me personally, I prefer more open spaces. I don't like when there's an over abundance of flowers or trees or, like you said, skinny paths, especially if you can't really see where you're going. It makes me feel claustrophobic for some reason, but that's just me. (probably)

I'd like my own to to resemble either a country town or an RPG town. I like flowers, but I like planting a few. I wish you could add bushes right next to your homes or right behind them to further resemble a couple of rpg towns or if pwp took up less space.

I also like aligning my villagers home in a straight line or in pairs. :)

Finding good QR paths is pain, but I don't like seeing empty patches from grass deterioration.

I like things neat, villagers living beside each other, I have 6 villagers close together in two rows of three, and separately two sets of two living side by side. My town square is in the middle of the map, and the river and map itself is straight, not a vertical windy kind of river. I use to hate my map but since I put paths down and carved it out with bushes I love it! I still have grass paths down though from plotting my villagers put. Mg favourite themes are Zen and Fairytale but with that normal looking black lamppost.
The only really bad part is that retail is so close to my house, but I can live with it.

I'm not particular picky with the layout, though there are a few that are just literally gross (you know the ones, no one wants THOSE, lol).

My only requirement is a moderately open space near the train tracks for my mayor's house and my two favourite villagers to go on either side. Just enough room to decorate around the area. I can work with everything else.

And I suppose this is a small preference, but optimally I'd like a brown train station roof and grey roof town hall, native fruit has to be apples and town facilities have to be spaced out a fair bit, though town hall and plaza can be close to each other. Also the more lakes, the better. They're so fun to work with. But I'm normally settling with layouts with just one or two.

Omgosh your town sounds so pretty, I have to visit it one day!
My town is a similar theme too but I never thought to use the og lamppost. I have fairy tale ones in mine but I honestly don't like the way they look. You might be onto something!

I don't think I've every heard any one say they actually like a bunch of ponds! They're just really hard to landscape around. Do you go for a more natural aesthetic?

I have a lesser neat town in terms having everything lined up. I don't like time travelling so being meticulous in that of having neighbors side by side, or having straight paths with trees, bushes, and flowers to expand on it I feel would too strenuous. I have one area to the side of the beach we're the houses look like they make a neighborhood, but that was completely out of my control. I went for a completely covered layout of black bricks with a pathing of grey brick that matches quite well with it to give a sort of Victorian vibe, but the design was really inspired from bricked boardwalks that you see with some beaches. I really like it. The dream address is updates if you'd like to see, or just let me know, and you can come over yourself
I don't mind.

I would love to come over! That sounds beautiful. Fc? Mine is in sidebar!

I do think intricate landscaping and the QR pathways that take up all the slots make for BEAUTIFUL towns, I just could never do that or want to. The only style I'm not a fan of is when they force you to walk in a certain line, usually happens in overgrown looks or story towns. I think you can get the overgrown feel without blocking out all options to walk, and I think stories can be understood just by house placement. You don't have to force us down a line to get the point.

I personally do a lowkey style with my town, I don't use any QRs and decorate with all base game things. I don't like too organized either, so while I do have my perfect orange orchards, they're not in a neat line, rather they're everywhere as my regular trees. For flowers, while I think towns that have all flowers as the ground is lovely, it's just too much for me to realistically consider. Instead, all of my natural deadspots and where grass died off from years of playing, became "natural flowerbeds", so I only place flowers in the dirt parts. And along building/houses to give a more lived in feel.

For villager houses, I don't do QRs, so they end up wherever they please. I personally like when they form duos, and I actually like having them around my house!
Right now I have three around my house and it gives it a real neighborhood feel for me, it's also a plus that two of my favorites live there! And I was very lucky that two of my originals naturally formed in a duo. And even more lucky that Shep and the recent move in are now in a duo too ! :D

For pwps, I don't want to commit to anything until I unlocked them all, so I only have the nonremovable ones, and a couple basic ones I know will go with anything I end up doing. I've seen some really nice and realistic setups from other people here though. <3 And I've never minded ponds or what my native was, etc, etc. I am very casual.:p

I have two towns with those exact descriptions :p my first town I rarely plot reset and used only dirt paths to connect all the villagers. It looked lovely though! I was going for a forest theme so I didn?t worry about paths much. My second town was very meticulously planned with every villager plot into a deliberate location in a ?villager cluster?. It has patterned paths I designed connecting everyone togheter and feels more like a little community.

For me, it depends on what I want to do with the town. I like variety, so I don't look for the same features in all of my maps. My first town is more natural and has dirt and stepping stones paths. I tried to make the paths about 2 tiles wide in most places, but I had to make it 1 tile wide in a few areas. I don't mind because it sort of naturally evolved and I think it suits the semi-zen theme I have.

For my second town, it will be very immaculate when it's finished with QR paths that are straight and consistently 2 tiles wide (3 in a few places like leading away from the event plaza). With this town, I'm going for a more Victorian feel, so I looked for a map that was more suited to keeping things straight and well aligned.

In any town, I would look for an interesting river shape, though. I like twists and turns. I don't like a river that is too straight or one that's scrunched up on one side of the map.

I don't mind ponds as long as the map meets my requirements for however I'm planning on laying out my town. I like to just surround my ponds with flowers and maybe a few trees to be a nice natural landscaping feature.

One thing I don't like to do is cover every single space with a flower, tree, bush or QR code. I like to leave some natural grass showing around the edges of my landscaping.

That's actually really nice to have such a relaxed way of living your town life! I'm very focused on making mine look as pristine as possible, and it's entirely stressful but I don't know if I could actually deal with a very natural go w/ the flow type of town. I tried before, before realizing I could customize my town to every little detail without hacking and at this point, I'm too far in to stop now lol.

Ahh! That does actually sound nice! And it's not like I'm saying it can't be pulled off. I think if I were to do it, I just would try to have lots of straight paths still. It does leave more room for more pwps if you like very minimal 1 tile paths. Which is something I struggle with my current town that has 2-3 tile wide paths. I feel like I have very limited space because my paths take up so much of it!
The windy path ones really irk me and tend to be very confusing and claustrophobic for me. It's an issue when you visit someone with this style of landscaping and they're just like,
"You can check out my house!"
And I'm just like, "OK HOW??"

Nice thread! I like my town to have a secret island (so one you can't get to without swimming in a wetsuit in the ocean with) so that I can put flowers and tress on it, like a hidden resort! I do time travel a lot because I am impatient with the game otherwise lol :) Therefore I am not worries about villager housing placements, I make the rest of the town work around it (including paths) I like the bridges to be easily accessible and for all the shops (retail, brewsters cafe, town hall etc) to be in the same quater of the town: So all on one side of the bridge and preferably all on the left or right. However, I realise that that is getting a bit too wishful lol. I also prefer a town railway station (aka train station) to have either a greed, red or blue roof but not brown. I like the train to come in from the left (getting into the nitty gritty lol) because it means that it is a shorter trip getting into the station and lets face it, when your collecting items or villagers you want to get back to you town asap. I don't mind where my house is as long as it is convenient and I like having peaches as my town fruit simply because they are the best. :lemon:

Yeah, I normally like more natural aesthetics for the towns I play in.
