What starting Pokemon do you pick?

I usaully always pick the water Pokemon, but after seeing the new fire Pokemon (can't remember it's name, but it looks like a monkey), I'm not sure which I am going to get now. What of the three starting Pokemon do you usaully pick?

I always pick the fire pokemon.

Water and grass seem harmless to me...

I'm picking the water Pokemon in Diamond and Pearl, forgot its name. For FireRed and LeafGreen, I picked Charmander, because Charizard is the best Pokemon ever.

Im starting to always choose grass, since they seem pretty sweet.

Chikorita -> (forgot) -> Meg- something

Then theres some turtle thing.

Ruby- fire

and probably.... fire for diamond, which will end up being the one that sells more, because I get it
