what is plot resetting and how can I do it in New leaf, and is it a simple thing to do or very complicated?

I would appreciate somebody giving me any useful advice on this :D

Plot resetting is where you reset the fenced-off villager plots that appear the day before a house appears. Like, you know those fenced-off plots of area that have a little sign that says something like "Reserved for <villager's name>"? Those are villager plots.

What people do is they make a new character BEFORE LOADING AN EXISTING CHARACTER ON THAT DAY, and they wander around the town looking for a plot. If it's in an inconvenient place or not the villager someone wanted, they turn off the game without going to isabelle, getting a house, etc etc, thus not saving the game.

Then they reload the game and try again until they are satisfied with the placement/villager, and they go through the thing with isabelle, talking to tom nook and getting a house, and then back to isabelle to get the TPC, so that they can save the game. After that, the game is saved along with the plot placement and villager, and they can delete the character they made for plot-resetting if they want.

It's more simple than it probably sounds! I do it all the time! :D

Also, if no plots appear after 3 or 4 resets, a villager plot is most likely not going to appear that day. Thus, you can probably quit the game and go into your Mayor or whatever, BUT I highly recommend you save the game anyway to be safe. Hope I helped! :3

Plot resetting is when a new villagers moves in, you get to reset the location of their house. ACNL usually picks the spot of the new house for you, and it might be (heck, almost all the time) at an undesired spot.

You can plot reset by creating a new character the same day that you predict a new villager moving in (if I'm not wrong, a new villager would move in one day after the beginning of your game, and one day after getting them from a different town and such).

For instance, I just bought Rudy, so I'm going to be plot resetting tomorrow by creating a new character. When I load up my town as that character, I will be playing with said character until I get to my town;
1. If Rudy has a spot I'm okay with, I will keep playing until I can get to save, then probably quit and return to play with my mayor (I actually don't want a new character yet, so I would delete the character I created just for the purpose of plot resetting).
2. If I don't like the location, I will just quit once I get to my town and create the new character again until I find a good spot.

Also, please remember to NOT load your with your mayor first. I have no idea why it works that way, but if you loaded up your town with your mayor and the new villager already has a plot reserved at some spot, you won't be able to plot reset it with a new character.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, what they said. But a few other pointers to keep in mind:

Your villager might not move in the day after you get him/her. It can take up to several days for the plot to appear. Be on the lookout, especially when your population dwindles to 8 or lower.

It's not just your mayor. You can't load any pre-existing characters, just to be clear. So if you have 4 characters that you like and want to keep, you can't plot reset.

Plot resetting can take hours if your villager is persistent on moving into a bad area. Some people will sit there for half a day trying to get their baby into a good spot. If on your first 10 tries your villager chooses the same bad spots over again and then on the 11th they choose a better spot but not the one you wanted them to be in, you might as well let it happen, unless you want to bet on the next 89 tries.

If you feel like you're one that would need to plot reset often, you ought to keep a special area where you can place your new character's tent when the time comes. Every time you plot reset, and your villager's plot is in a good spot, you would have to set up a new house for the new character you plot reset with. So you need room for your house and for the villager's house. Don't absolutely fill your town with hybrids/perf trees/etc, then plot reset, and realize that you need to sacrifice a whole section to your own character's house to go forward. Which, by the way, is much bigger than a villager's house. I think a human houseplot is the size of the fence PWP, if you want to use that.

In fact, if you are going to fill your town with hybrids/perf trees/etc, make sure you've got all your dreamies first and that you're satisfied with your current villagers. Then, make sure you aren't going to lose a single one of those villagers. Especially be careful when you're time-traveling. Because if on one fateful day your little angel wants to ping you to move, and you miss it, they'll be gone before you can blink, and next thing you know, you're sitting there doing the 16-cycle for 'em.
