I’ve been thinking about investing on a good office/gaming chair for a while but with so many options on the market, I don’t know where to start. After sitting for about an hour doing work on the computer my lower back begins to feel the burden (I guess I also need to invest in a standup desk) and I would like to invest in a good chair that will keep me comfortable for at least an hour or two.

I’ve been looking into the DXRacer chairs, but is the price tag really worth it? Or is it just the hype?

What chairs do y’all use and would recommend them?

This is the chair I have. It's really comfy! I don't game but I'm on my laptop writing for hours and hours and my butt doesn't get sore lol

I've heard great things about IKEA chairs especially 'Markus' but they're all sold out so I had to get one from Staples (which is mediocre at best)

I have the IKEA Markus. I like it, but I took the arm rests off though as it felt quite constricting, especially with all the ways I like to sit sideways and slouch all the time.

i also have the ikea markus and i can definitely recommend it! i used to struggle with back pains in the past because of my old office chair as well but with this one it doesn't happen anymore. plus, it's very comfortable for me to sit on and wasn't as expensive.

i use a lawn chair lol

i could probably use a new chair too tbh
My old office chair was so old I just had to dispose of it, the pleather was flaking off the chair .-. so now I'm down to a dinning room chair with a lumbar pillow .-.

The biggest issue I have with IKEA is that they don't deliver to my area... and the closest one I have is 2 and a half hours away TT.TT
Maybe when the whole virus settles down a bit I'll go check out their inventory, I'm very curious about their chairs since so many of you suggested them.

Well right now, at least for dining room sets cause that's what I've been looking at, their stock is low cause of COVID so you may run into that problem.

I’m no help I sit on a giant pillow on the ground, it gets me bunny snuggles so I have no intention of changing this. Until I go back to school and need to use my computer that is.

i've used this old wooden dining chair for 15+ years and i'm scared that i will not ever be able to feel right at computers ever again once it inevitably breaks down

I honestly resorted to a gaming chair. People were saying not to get one because it's just a gimmick and the such. Well, apparently they're the only desk chairs I could find that recline and stuff. I didn't want an office chair because I work an office job and wanted something that felt a little different. Mine is like the poster boy for gaming chairs. It's not bad, it does the job. I kind of wish I went with something a little more cushiony.

Yes, the IKEA that's 2 and a half hours away from me does carry the chair everyone else mentioned, but they only have 2 in stock.. I don't think the trip is worth it just for a chair .-.

10/10 worth it 🐰💕

Does it have a cushion or is it just the wood that you sit on? I am using a lumbar cushion for my dining room chair aka my current office chair and it helps... some... but it's not the best 😰

By cushiony do you mean softer? I've heard that firmer chairs are better for you as they give you the best posture but idrk

Watching this thread to look for recs for my dad lol. He’s looking for a new chair 👀

My partner has a DX Racer chair and I have a cheaper alternative chair so here is my chair input.

What I wanted in my chair mainly was adjustable arm rests that go straight up and down, and a wide seat so that I could actually sit cross legged on the chair / pull my feet up on to the chair. My chair is therefore I think a lot more comfortable for how I like to sit in it because the seat is wider compared to the DX racer seat and it's flat.

The pros of the DX racer chair would be the ability to recline, or those pillows it comes with. That lumbar support pillow on the DX racer is super comfy not gonna lie. I think this chair actually works better for him and how he likes to sit in it and he does actually get a lot of use out of the recline function to lean back and watch videos.

So yeah the DX racer is a nice chair, but it was a full $200 more expensive than my chair and I like my chair more (for me personally). Honestly my best advice would be to go to the store and sit in a bunch of chairs and see what you like about each one. And in general I would say you do want to invest a decent amount of money into a good chair, don't buy the absolute cheapest chair out there but you probably don't need the most expensive chair either!

I would highly recommend against any kind of "gaming" chair like DX Racer or any other similar chair. Reclining is completely overrated and most people use it rarely if ever. When it comes to office and gaming chairs, you want something that is actually good for your posture since you're going to be spending many hours sitting in it. You're also paying a premium for the colours, which I think look terrible to begin with.

If you can afford something more expensive (think of it as an investment into your health), most people would recommend the Herman Miller Aeron or Embody. There is also the Steelcase Leap which I have heard great things about from people who disliked Herman Miller for some reason. In reality, most chairs that aren't gaming chairs can be set up quite ergonomically with great adjustment options. Thing to consider are the height of your desk and the length of your legs. You don't want your legs dangling and you don't want your arms in awkward positions. Chairs with high quality mesh backs and comfortable, padded seats are the best.

I wish I followed the advise about the reclining part before I bought mine. I didn't mention it in my first post, but when I actually did receive the chair I found the reclining to actually feel awkward and not very comfortable. I didn't really end up using it much.

I don't even know the names of my own office chairs and gaming chairs👀

But Office Max has good chairs. That's actually where l got my red gaming chair and office chair. Also where my brother got his. Not sure is they have the red one there anymore in stores or online. Also IKEA has good office chairs too.
