It's basically only there for musicians these days. Just musicians listening to other musicians mainly and asking other musicians to promote you to other musicians. I doubt they actually listen to each other though, just say they do like "hey, checked you out. Your songs are rad, bro. Share my page?"
As a musician, I think it's a piece of trash. There's so many better options out there. Hell, just linking people to your soundcloud on Facebook is 1000x better than wasting time with MySpace.
I think people really only still use it because it has that reputation with being a good platform to get exposure and make it big since a few bands 'did' find success that way. The difference is that back then, people actually used MySpace where as now, it's only really the few people who still think it's as useful today as it was then that continue to use it.
I get random friend requests and/or followers every now and again from people I don't know (I get emails about it) but I've not been on the thing in years. Every time I get an email notification I'm like "wow, somebody is actually still using MySpace?"
