What makes a villager design likeable?

I dislike gorillas, elephants, rhinos, hippos, mice, frogs, kangaroos and ostriches. What I never understood about the octopus villagers is how they can walk around, breath in air and talk whilst ordinary octopus that you fish out of the sea cannot? Did the professor spill the secret ingredient "chemical X" again? O.o

I must have a very unpopular opinion: I hate Cat villagers. I don't know why I strongly dislike them. I just do. :x

Every other type I'm fine with. Except for maybe ducks...

I don't like the whore-ish looking animals. Diva, Tammy, Monique, Gloria, Maelle, Miranda, Fuschia (she's ok), Gigi, Jambette, Diva, Tiffany- yeah, I just called you out.

Whoever designed the animal villagers probably had one overriding concern in his mind: To make each one visually unique and so, highly recognizable. Making each animal unique isn't easy, but this would explain the outlandish faces and colors for many of them. As for what is cute or not, it's a matter of personal taste. I doubt any villager was made to look "whore-ish". Our own preconceived ideas about what is tasteful or not show when we judge them in such a fashion. :)

I'm so fickle about what I like in animals. Sometimes I convince myself that I just like the normal looking ones, but then I find one that's bizarre and love it. I don't think there's a rule for me. Although I don't like gorillas... (and I have two).

People hate kangaroos? Huh, I thought they were awesome. :(

Anywhoo, I tend to like my favorite animals as long they have uh... likeable faces? I don't know how to explain it. I know I don't like the wide-eyed coffee-high face, nor most animals that wear makeup. When it comes to gimmicks, it depends on what they are and if they look good in them. I don't care much for the likes of Tangy and Snake, but I wouldn't mind if Ankha or Clay moved into my village.

Currently, my favorite villager is one that ended up being so ridiculously alike to a character I created way before the game even came out. I know why I designed him the way I did, but man, it's kind of frustrating how popular he is. xD

I like almost all of the villagers. Gimmicks, realistic, anything. I love Coco! (By the way, according to a wiki, she's based on a coconut - get it, Coco?) Rocket is so cute! But the ones I don't like have specific reasons. For example, I don't like Rasher because he has stitches and when he smiles it honestly looks creepy to me. Hazel is okay, but the only thing I don't like is her unibrow and her catchphrase - "uni-wow!" Also, some villagers' appearances throw me off with one look. Sure, they have their personalities, but if I've already thought of them as "weird" or "I don't know about him/her," then no matter how much I get to know the villager I can't help but despise them just a little bit.
Oh, how I'm praying that I'll love all of my villagers when I restart...

Ha, I know where you're getting that from! XD
But it doesn't really matter to me whether they're out of the water or not. Despite the realistic feeling of Animal Crossing, it's just a game, and I don't think much about the octopi being out of the water or anything. But wouldn't it be cool if the octopi could swim, or the monkeys could climb trees? I think that should be in the next game, if there ever is one. :o

I like the subtle/not so subtle physical changes during different reactions.
When Curly's all jazzed up, his eyebrows form into one big curly one (hence the name).
When Chester's shocked, he bites his upper lip uwu

I just adore the squirrels because i like their big, bushy tails and the fact that they are so small compared to other villagers (like me, im tiny irl)

If the design is creative, I'll usually like it. Like Rooney. I love that idea. He terrifies me. Looks like he could knock me out at any moment.

That being said some of the gimmicky villagers stick with me and others don't. I like Coco, but I don't like Mira.

Ultimately, personality brings it home for me. I can like the way they look, but if they are too boring or too cute, to me it isn't as fun.
