"Real" music cannot be relegated to any one genre. It would be totally valid to select all the options in the OP because there are interesting compositions in each genre. In my opinion, however, "real" music must have some sort of harmonic, melodic, and/or rhythmic interest. It's totally possible to have two out of three, but once you go into one out of three territory, things start to get bad really fast. My absolute favorites genres are Brazilian (samba, bossa-nova, etc), flamenco, jazz, classical, some rock (such as Frank Zappa and King Crimson), and a bunch of world music. These genres tend to have all three previously mentioned redeeming musical qualities.

Let's look at pop music. Most of it is made for the masses. Chances are, it will not be harmonically interesting. Anything more than a simple major/minor/dominant vocabulary is sure to incite outrage. There are some exceptions to this, such as bands like The Bird and the Bee, but they're obviously not as popular as some other big names out there. With pop music, you usually get an infectious beat and a catchy melody. You could say that this fits two thirds of my criteria, but I'd argue otherwise, simply because catchy =/= good. Pop music composers rely on a few musical "hooks" that, yes, are catchy, but are fairly simple to come up with in the first place.

I'm not a huge fan of either rap or screamo. For rap, there is obviously very little harmonic OR melodic interest. In fact, I'd argue that it isn't music at all. Which isn't a bad thing, don't get me wrong -- it's simply glorified poetry. And that has its place in popular culture, too. Screamo, ehh, I have to say that I honestly don't get it. Definitely not my cup of tea.

Long story short, real music can be found anywhere as long as there is some creativity involved.

Pop = Okay.
Rap = Absolutely hate it, beyond horrible.
Rock = Love it.
R&B = Pretty good.
Screamo = 2nd least favourite.
Grime = Huh?
Metal = Love it.
Techno = Really good.
Jazz = Depends what song.
Blues = Depends what song.
Opera = Depends what song.
Indie = Huh?

I see what you mean, Epically with your genre choices.
Anyway, What I should actually say is, What is your favourite genre.
I seriously suck when It comes to making topics :S

metal has so many different sub-genre's, you'd be crazy to think otherwise.

also, what's with no multiple choice? :(

runners up are rap and rock.

Grime originated from London, its based from UK Garage. Its basically hip hop.
Also Garage should never be associated with Grunge music ;)
Out of the choices I would choose Rap.

<div class='spoiler_toggle'>lol wut</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">Pop - SOMETIMES!
Rap - NO!
Rock - RARELY!
R&B - EXTREMELY RARELY!
Screamo - NO!
Grime - NO!
Metal - SOMETIMES!
Techno - NO!
Jazz - YES!
Blues - NO, I prefer just jazz!
Soul - NO!
Opera - OH GAWD YES!
Indie - YES
Ska - YESSSS!</div>

Pop = Not really, most suck.
Rap = Some songs i really like.
Rock = Love some of it, I like the band 30 Seconds to Mars.
R&B = Totally, :]
Screamo = Ew, Screamos.
Grime = Never heard of a Grime song before.
Metal = Don't like metal..
Techno = Yesiree :]
Jazz =It relaxes me, so i guess so.
Blues = Kinda.
Opera = No.
Indie = Never heard one.

"Pop" music has no real definition. You could quite easily define The Beatles and Lady Gaga as pop music.

There is no hip-hop (which has pretty much swallowed up "R & B", unfortunately), punk, or classical option.

No one knows what the *censored.3.0* "grime" is, i.e. it is pretty obscure. Screamo fits right under metal.

Lol wtf opera.

Indie is not a genre. Indie means independent music, not associated with any major record label. There's indie rock, indie electronic, indie rap, and more. That's like saying dark green and dark red are the same color just because they're both dark colors.

However, I do like Indie Rock and /some/ Techno. Indie Rock has a more distinctive sound as opposed to major label. Maybe a few artists who could be classified as "Pop", but eh.

Pop = Well, hurr. I wasn't born in 1998.
Rap = Eh, okay.
Rock = No, no no. No 12 year old n00b for me
R&B = sean kingston is r and b and so is alicia keys, so yes
Screamo = ew
Grime = ew
Metal = ew
Techno = Electronic wuss no thx.
Jazz = Are you SERIOUS?
Blues = no 1940s, either
Opera = no 1930s, either
Indie = no 1980s, either

Pop = Catchy, but gets old. No.
Rap = No. Most of it is meaningless *censored.2.0*.
Rock = Really depends on the band. Most are boring.
R&B = No.
Screamo = I just don't like it very much..
Metal = Naw.
Techno = Once in a while.
Jazz = The style's nice, rarely listen to it though.
Blues = I like elements of Blues.
Opera = No way.
Indie = Forever, baby.
