I've always been taught that Australia is not a continent, its part of Oceania alongside New Zealand and afew islands North of Aussie.

Your education system in whatever country you live in is not mine, so if you were taught otherwise there isn't much I can say.

I think in America, (at least that's the impression I'm getting) Australia is classified as both a country and continent, but the Oceania idea makes more sense. Nevertheless, I learned something new.

Yeah, I'm going to agree with Rob on this one. It would make more sense to classify Australia and it's neighboring countries as Oceania.

Yeah, I'm going to agree with Rob on this one. It would make more sense to classify Australia and it's neighboring countries as Oceania.

They are still classified as Oceania, but that's just a region, not an actual continent.
