My starter jock was Boone, but he left before I received his photo.
He came back from a different island's void about...a month ago? So I decided, 'alright, clearly I'm being told to keep him around for a photo! I can handle this!'
Fast-forward to Boone actually being around, and it was seriously Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
(For what it's worth, I only know the original 1950s version) It was the same character model but NOT the same Boone, and I had vibes of 'clearly I cannot keep him around for over a month and do this the usual way.'
I did the wrapped-bell method
(which has since been patched) with a friend visiting to snap him out of being over-talked and I received his photo the next day. (incidentally, he was crafting a pitfall seed at that time, plotting my downfall, eh?)
I think overall it was three days. I got lucky with fulfilling multiple requests revolving around Boone on day 1 after unpacking.
I also had luck with the campsite RNG bringing along someone I regretted passing up island-hopping, so I'm Boone-free once more. Don't get me wrong, I like the gorilla, but I've had my time with him on NH.
I'm not too proud of it but...*shudder* Invasion of the Boone Snatchers.
Edit for
@6iixx: you don't particularly lose friendship points by TT-ing years at a time. You can't even lose villagers that way anymore! But it is possible to go back and forth between two days of the same week within the year to grind birthdays, which I believe
@Sharksheep was referring to. The only con is that it fills up your Nook Miles stamps quickly, which is a major con if you're trying to fill it up naturally.
