What is the point of katie?

She's in my town and wants me to take her to another town. Do I get a gift? Is this a random occurrence?

It's not really random. If you wifi with someone recently, she's more likely to appear. You can get a gift the next day if you deliver her to another town.

I haven't wi fi'd with anyone in days now. I was planning to TT but I'm afraid Katie will go poof.

Like I said, it's just more likely she'll appear. She can still appear randomly even if it's been a week or so after you have wifi'd someone. It shouldn't really matter unless you want her item. You can always ask people on the Train Station board to drop her off. If not, she'll appear again if you frequently wifi.
