What is the chance of corrupting data by quitting without saving?

So today I had Kabuki at my campsite.
He's not a dreamie but I thought he was cool. I managed to get him to agree to move in but, unfortunately, he chose Boyd.
I was too scared to reset my game without quitting. Now, when I try with him again, he keeps picking Boyd so I'm guessing there's no other way around it which is what I expected.
I was a bit scared to quit without saving tbh, which is why I thought I'd leave it up to chance - I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
But now I also want to do the thought bubble swapping to get the villagers I want to leave faster rather than waiting 5-6 days for the cool down but am still a bit paranoid about restarting my game without quitting and saving it properly in case it corrupts something.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, you have to quit without saving for this trick to work - as soon as it saves after he's picked someone, he'll stick with that someone.

Quitting without saving isn't an issue, it won't corrupt your save, and it's the whole reason autosaving exists in the first place - so that you can quit without saving (though it's still force of habit for some I'm sure). Worst case scenario then is you lose about three minutes of gameplay, up to the point the last autosave occurred.

Quitting whilst saving is where you could meet issues - this is what many people are referring to when they say your file could be corrupted when you quit.

i think it's very unlikely, they just make sure to caution you about it just in case.
I know a lot of people have recently been quitting while the game is in the process of saving on purpose to dupe and they've come out fine (unfortunately lol).

quitting without saving is fine though, it's just quitting while the spinny thing's in the corner that has a risk. the campsite is completely safe because it doesn't immediately save after picking someone, so you're safe to reroll who he picks as many times as you like (I believe it's too late now he's picked someone though). I've done this countless times and had no issues because the game never saves at that point in the conversation

Thanks for the input, guys!
I guess I'm just super paranoid.
And yes, it's too late though it's okay - he's not really a villager I was after anyway.

Would it also work the same way for transferring the move-out thought bubble (the quitting without saving)?

I've honestly never tried doing that by quitting without saving, but just always check the top right corner of your screen! if the saving indicator isn't there then you're good to go. although you can also transfer the bubble by simply ignoring the villager with a thought bubble and waiting for the next day if you're too worried to try it lol

Yeah, but in my case the majority of thought bubbles have nothing to do with moving since I'm pretty good friends with all my villagers. So I have no way of knowing if they actually want to leave or just gift me something/buy something from me.

ohh I see. I believe if you get a thought bubble as soon as you open the game and you haven't talked to them yet, it's guaranteed to be a moving thought bubble rather than anything else. I also think?? that this goes the other way too. if you've already talked to them on that day I think it's guaranteed to be something else (like a gift or catchphrase change etc)

this has been my experience 100% of the time in my two islands (1 tt and 1 non-tt) and I've moved out a pretty hefty amount of villagers so I think it's a pretty safe assumption? but if you would like to check, I've also done that plenty of times and been fine! I believe the game saves after you choose and option and not before you choose an option. and if you want to sit on it because you're not sure whether to let them leave or not, just open the home menu. the game can't save while you're in the menu so you're safe to leave it there as long as you like haha

As long as it's been 15 days or more since the last move-out and you're in what I call "move-out season", then this is true. Otherwise thought bubbles can be anything, even if they're as soon as you open the game.

Hasn't been the case for me.
I had move-outs thought bubbles from villagers really late in the day (sometimes even at night) while I've seen them before with no thought bubble.
I wish it worked more similar to New Leaf in that regard but it doesn't seem to.

About the move-out thought bubble, it doesn't seem to work when you quit and save, as I had someone wanting to move who lived right next to me as I loaded up the game. I managed to quit and restart without saving and it was the same person who wanted to move out.

I think there's a chance that the thought bubble will move onto someone else within the next few days though (if not the next day).

"Good friends" doesn't stop someone from moving, it lowers the chance when compared to other villagers, if all of your villagers are super high in friendship, then they will all have a roughly even chance of moving out after 15 days after the last move out or 5 days after the last refused move out.

Villagers will also almost exclusively only ask to move when you first log in, other thought bubbles rarely occur in the first few minutes of play.

I never said that being good friends stops them from moving, just that it means that the thought bubbles can be for different things.
Also, what you said about the first thought bubble that day being about the villager moving out is not true in my experience.
I've had thought bubbles from villagers for mundane things and then a move-out thought bubble out of the blue much later on in the day.
At one point, I had Sherb ask me to leave at 10:30 p.m. (and no, I don't TT).
I even made a post about this as I was curious about how the move-out mechanics work.

Not first thought bubble, but the one you see immediately when you turn your game on. At least that has been my experience (from massive amounts of time travelling) I've never had a thought bubble immediately upon logging into the game that wasn't a move out request.. Though as you found out with Sherb, there is a small chance villagers will ask to leave late at night.
