What is plot resetting?

I keep seeing people talk about it but I have no clue what it means D:

You know how a villager plot will be placed somewhere in your town when you load up as an existing character?

Well if you click on New Save File on a new day (and you know that a plot will spawn) you can reset for where the villager plot will show up. This is very convenient to do this if you want them to get into a specific place, or if you want to make sure that they won't plot at a bad place.

Plot resetting is when you use a new character to check where a villager has moved in. You can't decide where a villager plots, but when you're using a new save file you can see that a villager plot will move randomly around town. Most people plot reset because they want them in good places where they won't get in the way of landscaping/making their town look nice. Plot resetting takes a lot of patience, however, I've done it many times before myself. The most I spent doing it was two weeks.
