I haven’t been reading for awhile, but I hope to get back to it when my mental health is better; I say this since most of what I read makes me really mad 😅. I read mostly history, political science (foreign affairs related and they are more of a mix between history than outright politics), and manga (no specific genre).

Here is what was on my reading list last time I checked:

  • Diary of the Cuban Revolution by: Carlos Franqui; I was about halfway through this.
  • Rogue State: A Guide to the World’s Only Superpower by William Blum - I was 200ish pages in, may need to start over. Some of the information I already read about in some of his other books, but I think this book covered stuff he didin’t mention in either of the books.
  • Maybe The Iranian Nuclear Crisis: a Memoir by: Seyed Hossein Mousavian; I was almost 100 pages in. I loved the other book I read of his; a lot of what I read so far was mentioned in the other book, but I wanted to learn more from his perspective. I was enjoying it but the editor’s comments really turned me off. I wasn’t interested in the editor’s comments since I felt the editor was biased; I didn’t need to hear the editor’s perspective since I’m aware of the American perspective and I wanted to hear the other side and what I feel is closer to the truth & reality. I think in his other book, the author refutes some of the criticism that editor made.
  • Maybe eventually finish Inside the Company: CIA Diary by: Philip Agee; very dry read but still insightful.
  • The Parisian by Isabella Hammon - I got this one of the last Christmases I had along with Mother of Strangers; both were part of a book recommendation list by I think a writer who strongly supports the Palestinian cause. They made a book recommendation list for those who wanted to learn more about what is happening.
  • Mother of Strangers by Suad Amiry
  • Che Guevara by Jon Lee Anderson
  • The Eagle and the Lion by James A. Bill
  • Patriot of Persia by Christopher de Bellaigue
  • All the Shah’s Men by Stephen Kinzer
There are honestly more books I want to read that I have and don’t have (these are books I have with the exception of two) 😅.

I also need to catch up on the One Piece manga.

I want to reread some books too. I’ll save that list to post about another day though.

Basically every book I own (someone please inject me with the desire to read books again) lol. Here's a few
  • The picture of Dorian Grey I bought this like one or two years ago, started reading it back in September, and promptly forgot about it in my locker
  • Phantom of the opera I bought this whenever I got Dorian Grey, but I haven't made an attempt yet
  • Tales from alagaesia I received it as a Christmas gift, and I started to read it but then I started reading about the Jewish roots of Mary, so it's currently sitting at the bottom of my bedside table. I do want to read it though
  • The rest of the artemis fowl books, to be honest. I was reading them in chronological order, but it turns out I skipped a whole book? So I'm planning on going back and reading the series again, in its entirety
And that's all of them at the moment, anyway.

I don't have the titles of every book, but I am currently reading through a lot of Louis L'amour books. Specifically the Sackett's series. They are short Westerns (or as he described them... frontier stories). They are so great if you love the old west stories!

I wish I could say I was reading all sorts of smart books, learning books, but I do truly enjoy a good fictional cowboy story!

They take my mind off of the serious real world day to day drama and life in general.

Right now I'm reading Leviathan Wakes(#1 in The Expanse series), The Lies of Locke Lamora(#1 in the Gentleman ******** series), and Volume #2 in the first omnibus of the Vampire Hunter D series. Enjoying them all a lot. Series I'd like to explore in the future:

Mistborn
Discworld
Malazan Book of the Fallen
Poppy War
Kingkiller Chronicle
Lightbringer
Bobiverse
Dark Tower

...and possibly many others.

So much, I love thrifting books and getting them through other means after finding good recommendations. 🤭

- The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels
- Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List
- The Rosie Project
- Field Notes on Love
- Axiom's End

New:

- Red, White and Royal Blue
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Downloaded:

- I Hope This Finds You Well
- The Lying Game

I very rarely ever read which I know is not a great thing.. but I last year I decided that I kinda want to read as many vampire books as possible, just because! I started reading Dracula, and Interview With the Vampire, a while ago but haven't gotten around to finishing either of them.. I think maybe because I'm reading them digitally? It just feels less motivating that way maybe... and it makes me want to actually go to a library and check out the books!

Saaaame, it's so hard for me to read without an actual Book in my hand. A friend actually put me on to "Dracula Daily" last year, an email list where they send you chapters of Dracula on the dates corresponding with their journal entries in the book. It's a cool system, but for two years in a row now I've fallen off because I get busy and reading those emails feels too much like a chore 😭
