What if you dont have wifi?

I didn't have Wi-Fi in the house until late 2014, long after I stopped playing NL, so I feel your pain.

For updates and everything I had to go to public places that had Wi-Fi. Right now is not a good time to do that, though.

Try your community Library or Barns n noble, McDonalds or StarBucks. They have free wifi, just ask to use it to get the password.

Edit. some places have access in the parking lot.

This would normally be my answer BUT because of covid-19 there's a lot of places that aren't allowing people to sit inside and use their wifi because they're take out only. I doubt Barns and Nobles is open rn at all because of the situation.

If you have hotspot on your phone, you might try pairing the switch to the hotspot wifi and see if that works. I was trading with a person who did that and they said it works but a bit slow.

This is why DLC makes me mad. I've not had internet way more often than I've had it. Thankfully I have wifi but yeah. I paid $60 nintendo should've just included it. Mine so slow it takes about a day to download anything.
Everything's closed so I'm not sure maybe like previous posters said parking lot access?

My local libraries have free WiFi that have been kept on even though they’re closed. McDonald’s and Wendy’s also have free WiFi.

Phone hotspoting def works for updates, but I can’t ever play online using it (even though it’s faster than my satellite it’s not as stable.. bah.)

+1. My local library has been closed for weeks now, but their WiFi is running and is accessible from the parking lot.

I definitely feel the pain. I had no internet when ACHN first arrived because of some family issues and I wasn't able to update for aages.
Mobile hotspot is definitely the best way to go if youre able to

Honestly this is one of my biggest complaints with ACNH. It still feels a little... Unfinished. I don't think Redd and the museum expansion should have been an update, those things are like standard parts if the game. Or other things we already had in NL, like diving. (Though not complaining about having the game for the last month!)
And requiring an internet connection to download updates to participate in events is wildly unfair to people who just don't have internet at home or decent download speeds.
