I time jumped back so I could catch up a new player in my game without going into the future. On the last day before I was gonna jump back to normal time a villager I have been trying to get rid of suddenly told me he is leaving. If I jump further than a day ahead, what will happen?

Did you give him permission to leave? If not, absolutely nothing will happen- they ONLY move in this game with permission.

If you said he could leave, then he'll pack up his boxes the next day, and if you TT further than that he'll be gone. IDK if the lot will still be available or if you risk getting a void villager in it, though (i.e. random villager)

yeah i wished him on his merry way. so you're saying i need to jump one day and resolve his move before i return?

Yeah. Thankfully, no one can leave unless you actually told them to. So you don't have to fear anyone leaving your island even if you TT for years.

oh i want him gone, been trying to get him out for weeks. my worry was if it would cancel his move and i'd still be stuck with him

Before you TT further, let him completely move out. Make sure he left an open plot. But if you TT after that, that plot will be filled with a random villager.

Make sure not to skip the day that the plot will be empty or else it will glitch and your next villager will keep the previous villager’s House exterior

Oh, no, it won't cancel the move- there's literally no way to now, actually. So need to worry about that! You'll just miss a chance to say "goodbye" but... you don't too sentimental about him 😅

EDIT: Oh! If there's some glitch then I could be wrong, maybe you do need to make sure they move out okay... I don't think I've ever had this issue before!
