Just a few minutes ago, I was playing Animal Crossing on my 3DS. I put it down next to me to type something on the computer, and it's left side hit the arm of the chair. The top screen went black, and the bottom said that an error had occurred. I restarted the 3DS, and thankfully everything was fine, my digital games showed up, my AC game didn't corrupt, it was as if nothing had happened. I would just shrug this off, but a week or two ago, I set down my 3DS and literally just turned off. The battery wasn't low, I hadn't been touched the power button (to my knowledge). I turned it on, and like what just happened, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I received the 3DS in May, 2011, so it could just be wearing down, but if there's a problem, I'd rather fix it soon than later.

Has this happened to anyone else? Do you know what caused it? Am I just overreacting?

Sounds like the cartridge was a little loose or something bumped into it. Usually when that happens, the 3DS thinks you took out the cartridge improperly.

Like Tom said, it could have been that, also sometimes people forget the SD card. Especially if you're on an original 3DS (versus an XL) and using one that is a smaller SD or one that isn't at least similar shape and size to the default Samsung ones they give by default. Sometimes they dislodge and it causes no damage to your data or system but it can be annoying. My friend had that problem but seems exclusive to 3DS systems, not 3DSXL systems.
