What exactly does wishing on a star do?

My town got shooting stars tonight, and Whitney told me to look at the sky and press A whenever a shooting star comes by to make a wish.

Nope! You only have to wish once. However, he'll only send you one present, so making lots of wishes won't get you lots of presents.

Just once. If the star turns bright yellow, you've done it successfully.

And you can make a wish with all your player characters, so if you have four players you can get four gifts^^

It is actually very handy if you like to catalog items
even though you only get one item
it's a spotlight item so it's rare to see

I only found out you can actually wish on stars when Whitney told me to look up and press A.

You can't wish on the star if your holding a tool in your hand.
You know it works when your player turns around and puts her hands together.
A lot of players open their gates when is wish on a star.
My first wish on the star was in someone else town. I received a Throne.
Got another Throne in my own town.

First time it was in my town and I think I got a space console or crew members seat? xD some sci-fi spotlight item..
Second time my friend invited me to her town for meteor shower and got a Throne from Wishy next day C:

So yeah, you can invite other players to your town too! and take pretty screenshots, haha xD

I missed out on so many of them until a villager told me about it, and then when I went to tell my friends they hadn't heard of it either! And they had been playing longer than me!

I saw it on bulletin board- in the morning there was a bird on the bulletin board so I checked it and the message said there would be meteor shower at night.
