I never played Animal Crossing before the world shut down, but once that happened I felt like I needed a safe space I could disappear into from time to time, just to get away briefly from the crazy that seems to be 2020. After I joined TBT to exchange lighthouse colours (oh that seems like ages ago now...) I also realized the online community was also a great social network to have at a time when all conventional networks have been turned upside down.
So for me, it’s definitely escapism and the amazing people I’ve since met online
For me its ways been about escapism, I'm not a very social person, I've always had very bad social anxiety. Like afraid to throw something away in my own trashcan, in my own home. Ac has been a big part of my life, it was one of the first games I ever played (the original) and it was very calming And zen. And the people in the community are, for the most part, very kind. And no one cares who you are or what you are in AC, I can be a gay trans man and the villagers don't care. They're NPCs they're only job is to say funny things and make happy. And with the current world situation its even more so.
So yeah, escaping is the main point, it helps that you can collect things too, I love collecting things. Aaand the amazing people I've met through animal crossing.
Honestly, years long love for the game. Out of the options, however, I went with talking to the villagers because having tiny animal friends is one of the best parts of my days recently. I suppose that would add escapism as well to the answer.
I love designing my island the most! Seeing it evolve over time has been so fun. In a way, through that process I've also used to relax and escape. I love being able to have a little space where I can just have fun and explore!
for me,, the game just has such a cozy vibe!! i was drawn in by new leaf, and have been a fan since! it's great to have your own little world that you can do whatever you want with. the community is great, and the vibes are immaculate, ! <3
i'm hopelessly addicted to the terraforming and outdoor decorating aspect of it! i have a perfectionism problem and want to have everything laid out just right lol. i'm on my third big re-landscaping of the whole island now but i think i finally have a layout/theme that will stick! the whole god-mode part of it really is the most fun to me
For me, I just love the collecting of stuff for the museum and I just like relaxing with the game. It is a Creativity game which means fun for me. I love looking at the changes through the year.
For me, decorating my island and collecting furniture is what draws me to the game (regardless of how I feel about the available items in the game). I’ve been having a lot of fun decorating my island.
I voted for decorating my house and talking to my villagers. I play AC mostly because of its creative aspect. I especially love how we can terraform in ACNH! Secondly I play the game to interact with my villagers, even if the dialogue is repetitive. They are so cute and I love how they always have something positive/encouraging to say.
I like talking to my villagers because there's a feeling of being valued in the community, even though the majority I see on here think that the dialogue in this game is lacking. I also like seeing my island grow little by little because it shows how far I've come ever since I bought the game at release.
Decorating and seeing my island grow over time kinda go hand in hand for me. Sometimes it’s fun to just run around the entire map imagining how it went from weeds and a tent to what it’s become now! But then when you think of all the hours that you dumped into it, that’s a different story... lol
I never though I would love terraforming as much as I do. I have been heavily considering using my boyfriend's switch as a "throwaway island" that I would terraform over and over again, just lots of different themes, then reset the whole place. I could make the themes I wish I could attempt, like cottagecore, zen, etc without actually having to do it on my "Main" island.
I picked escapism, but also decorating my island! Lately I've been decorating and redecorating a lot, and then once I feel an area is really "complete", I like to walk around it and just relax and escape...
...like, my forest still needs a couple bits of fine-tuning, but it's pretty peaceful and pretty as is. I like just walking through it and taking in the lovely sights ☺
