i have my shovel first, since i use it a lot to move my surplus of flowers. bea gave me an umbrella in the mail with an adorably cute message, so i had to fit it on there (it’s a strawberry umbrella, btw)

the reason i have a wand in the place of a watering can is because i’ve stopped breeding because i’ve come to the ground-breaking revelation that, no, i don’t need a whole beach filled with flowers.

the general set-up was the same pattern that i used to have in new leaf, and i’m glad that i could apply it to new horizons.

Okay, I'll share mine in a minute but I HAD to say first-- the hair on your Switch legit made me blow on my screen because I thought it had a hair on it. LMAO!!

Clockwise it's the shovel > slingshot > fishing rod > ladder > net > vaulting pole > stone axe. I really had to think about this because I don't categorize the tool wheel. 😅

Ladder and vaulting pole at top, for convenience if I'm too lazy to run to ramps/bridges or if I'm on a Nook Miles island. Watering can next for flower breeding. Then a stone axe. I keep my net between my stone and regular axe, BUT the regular axe isn't on my ring because I don't want to accidentally use it on the wrong tree. Next to it, and next on the ring, is my shovel for convenience for digging up stumps. Next to the shovel is a fishing rod, which is next to the shovel for when I'm digging up manila clams and fishing. Since I tend to see balloons when I'm fishing, then comes the slingshot!

Most importantly, I keep all the items in this order in my inventory so it's easier for me to keep track of everything ☺

While I used to have the tool ring full with equipment, right now it's empty aside from my ladder, shovel, and slingshot. I like to keep a clean inventory now and I've found it helps quite a lot when trading, moving lots of items at once, or even just fishing and wood farming. I have all the materials I need for crafting tools sitting right next to my house, along with a workbench to craft them at, but most of the time I end up buying my tools from the shop if it's open. I've also seen other people setup 'crafting areas' in a couple places on their island as well, so that would definitely help if you don't want to carry too much on you at once.

Glad to see someone else has a designate spot for an umbrella, I cary the Bear Umbrella around, I feel like it's ok for my character not to match clothes with that one. I can't remember what my tool ring looks like, but I definitely don't carry a vaulting pole or ladder anymore... which is inconvenient when I go to my friends island lol

I don't have it any certain way, it's too much work to keep rearranging it every time I take my tools out of storage. I just let it do what it wants lol.

Ladder on top (cuz it makes sense going up) and then to be opposite, vaulting pole on the bottom. Rod on left and net on right for easiest access (I find the diagonals to be hard to not sometimes). The other 4 don't mean as much but slingshot is top left (near top cuz sky) and shovel is bottom left (cuz ground), and then watering can is top right and axe is bottom right.

• Up -> Slingshot (cuz balloons up in the air)
• Down -> Shovel (cuz diggin' the ground)

That's the only thing I keep consistent, lol. Otherwise I keep stuff I don't use often like wands or axes on the diagonals. And fishing rods or nets on the <- and -> sides.

I keep both types of axes in my tool ring as well as a slingshot but my island is too overrun with flowers for me to ever want to water any and I don’t normally carry a wand because I have little need for it. I still ha e the ladder and vaulting pole with me because sometimes it’s easier when I want to get up to the third level of my island (I only have one staircase up to it)

I try and keep the things I need frequently on the main up/down/left/right direction, because I find NE/NW/SE/SW sometimes difficult to access.
So, my tool ring, from 12 o'clock, usually looks like:
Net->Slingshot->Vaulting Pole->Watering Can->Shovel->Fishing Rod->Ladder->Axe
It's really annoying that the ring doesn't remember your favorite configuration, especially if you're a little OCD about how the items are sequenced!

I don't use the tool ring. It seems too clunky for me.
I second this, tried to use it and honestly I think it’s not great at all. I only carry 4 tools anyway so I just switch between the four using the left and right buttons

It looks like a forgetful person who can't find their sunglasses sitting on top of their head, so they take another pair until they realize at their destination.

I like to carry extra tools that I overuse but I will craft a fishing rod without thinking when in actuality I need a bug net and vice versa. So I have a bunch of fishing rods sitting in my house right now. It happens a lot with axes, especially the choppy axe. I want the stone axe and then I made two choppy axes.

I'm too lazy to take a screenshot but basically I like to keep all tools with me at all times: iron axe, golden watering can, iron shovel, pole vault, ladder, golden slingshot, bug net, fishing pole. I don't bother with the wand or umbrella :p

I just kinda have them wherever they end up, I sometimes use the tool ring but most of the time I just switch using my inventory or the dpad

chaos

my tool ring looks like whatever random order it's generated in that day! I put tools in/take them out of storage a lot still, so my tool ring setup still hasn't become....stable, yet
