What /do/ you write in your letters?

I write letters every day and switch between 2 messages that are variations of the following:

Thank you for the letter.
You are a good friend.
I am giving you this item as a gift.

I attach an item or clothes in their favorite color or theme. I will sometimes attach shells or fruit if I forget to buy items to give them (I try to match color then since several of my villagers love orange).
I always get a letter back. Seriously, I always have a mailbox at 7 am with like 3 things in it (HHA or letter from mom) and at 9 am I get 10 letters from villagers. I don't always get a gift back though.

Will they wear what you send them?

You can write pretty much anything you want because Animals cannot read. However certain gifts will cause Animals to reply differently for example if you attached a fruit.

I also heard they give better items depending on how much you write, so I try and fill the lines. For a while, I wrote out my thoughts on maybe making a horror town, but now I really have no idea what to write. I have started trying to make it sort of relate to what they talk about, like writing with a villager about how their magazine subscription ran out. I also send welcome letters to new villagers.

Sometimes I just tell them if I think they are cool or cute. Or I tell them about my latest annoyance at Timbra (the sheep next door and my arch-nemesis). Sometimes, I like to say things about their furniture that I like and wish I had

I usually just write "hi!" and gift them a shell. It is funny when they write back and say how profound my letter was.

Animals don't give a **** about what you actually write in your letters, just the fact that you're sending them one makes them happy. It depends on how I'm feeling what I'll write. Could be a genuine "Hey how are you. I was just...." type of letter or a "ackmcoskmc ??ac AOKO/ avoanvo9" type. Or even just outright threats. They'll still be happy.

i sent sheldon a letter saying "i feel that you should be a turtle instead of a squirrel so your name could be like SHELL-don omg why didn't i do the character designs for this game" and he said that he reads the letter every night before he goes to sleep. idk i just write dumb letters to my villagers hehe~

Something about them being cute or thanking them for whatever. I've been feeling a bit down recently and sometimes I'll thank them for cheering me up. Apple likes to send me letters randomly and they're always so sweet so she usually gets lavished with love and presents. > o<

Whenever a new villager moves in, I always send them a welcome to town letter. c:

I also send apology letters to villagers if we scheduled a time to meet and I forget to show up. .__.

In WW, the only reason I sent letters were in hopes of a present, so I just sent stuff like "yo i likee poop yo dawg sup byee" and attached like. a peach. XD

But now, since I only send letters to my absolute fave villagers, so I am pretty genuine. I talk about my day and whatnot. For example, Olaf asked for some fruit, so I gave him a pear in person, and then sent him 2 more in a letter.

I never just send pointless gifts. They are either random furniture pieces that I bought or recently owned (I don't take gifts they gave to me and send it back to them. ever.) or nice looking clothing that I bought. Or sometimes, if I am cleaning out my closet, I will send them whatever I don't need anymore.

they LOVE it...they always respond positively and they whip those letter out to "remind" me of what a fan I am of theirs LOL
I do miss the copy and paste that WW had though...made it so much quicker. I got all three badges for letter writing and haven't written one since ...been too lazy to be bothered and working on other things...not only that it ties up my mailbox because I am still waiting on tons of items I ordered to come in and their response letters makes it take longer...so until I have everything I ordered I am not writing to them.

I also attach furniture or clothes and usually get the same type in return, it is nice when I get things I haven't cataloged yet!

I've noticed that my villagers only seem to keep the very first letter I send them. At least, that's all they ever show me. I don't think a visitor has been shown one of my later letters yet. So now I always send a standard welcome letter as soon as a villager moves in:

Welcome to Lotus! I know
we'll become great friends.
Meet me at the temple when
you're all settled and I'll take
care of your initiation ritual.
Pants optional of course.

I attach items bought or found during the day that aren't disliked (based on Thonky's guide)
But even after that crucial first letter is out of the way, I still tend to write long, slightly inappropriate letters to the villagers I'm wooing for their portraits. Here are some more I copied in my notebook to rewrite as needed:

I eat mushrooms basically all
the time. But my supply has

tl:dr I favor letters that hint at some sort of upcoming plot twist in my town...

I write cheesy song lyrics. My favorite ones to use are: Miss New Booty and I Believe I Can Fly.

I respond to letters they send me with what they talked about in their letter. I also associate things with the stuff I send them. Like I sent Snake a ball capture and I told him we should play some b ball sometime. I told him I'd school him. He seemed up for the challenge.
