So apparently, people are "speed-running" through the older Animal Crossing games. Mainly speeding through all the loan repayments.

But I'm seeing crazy timestamps! Like 30 minutes.

Here's one.

Thoughts?

It's cool to see people speedrun the game when it's intended to play in real time and through many days/weeks. I bet a lot of rng is involved to get the world record.

Yep, for a long, long time. Even 100% runs of the GameCube ones exist.
Not really into that so it seems boring to me, but it is there for somebody to enjoy.

the only kick i got out of that was nook complaining about how long it took for him to complete his work LOL.

but since they didnt play it "properly", i was actually disappointed when i came across that video a few days ago.

I'm pretty impressed at the fact that short speedruns are even possible for a game like Animal Crossing. I would go weeks, maybe even months, without paying off my debts to Tom (Even when I have the money to) and these people do it in a matter of minutes, it's impressive.

I've known about this for a while, and it still kind of amazes me. Just the fact that people were able to find these glitches in the first place is impressive to me.

Must be weird to be a villager in one of those speedrun towns.

I find them quite interesting to watch actually. Like I knew the one with the debts, wished I would have known that trick back then when I played the GC title, as it took me forever to get my house fully built out and making bells in general.

I find speedruns super interesting, but I'd never partake in one myself.

It's interesting to see one for an Animal Crossing game, but I don't really see the point in it if you time travel? I guess it's the same thing as using glitches and such, but also debt is such a boring goal. It's just finding ways to make as much bells as much as possible which is cool, but not as cool as people making it through a campaign or glitching their way to a final boss in 5 minutes.

You can't really make good goals for Animal Crossing. Maybe unlocking everything in New Leaf with time travel? Another idea would be getting all pictures, but that would be insane. I searched it on YouTube and also saw someone time traveling through one year of events.

Other than that all speedruns are good ways to learn new stuff about games.

I think speed runs are pretty awesome! I like the technical, completion-driven way of playing it. It's entirely a challenge. I mean, trying to complete the game without the whole speed run aspect is still a challenge, but it's far more lackidasical without the time goal.

It's like a Pokemon Nuzlocke challenge. It puts more strategy into the game instead of 'doing whatever I want when I feel like it'. in my own opinion, that's more enjoyable.

I don't care for them. To me, Animal Crossing is an endless journey where I cherish each bit of progress on my village, watching my beloved village slowly become more and more beautiful and the world around me slowly unravel, where one thing comes to an end and another thing starts. As a real life home decorator, putting a finish line on a game like this doesn't appeal to me, because just as my home is constantly changing, so too will my village be doing likewise.

Speed runs for an action game that show off a person's skill? That's great. Go for it.

But things like the video linked in the first post? The person is literally using glitches and cheats to duplicate items to earn money. That's like entering a marathon, having an Uber drive you to the finish line, and then bragging that you're the fastest runner. Just no.
