Many games have both cooking in farming in them that are relaxing games similar to animal crossing such as harvest moon and star dew valley. I wanna head your opinions on if this would be a good contribution to animal crossing and how it could work, or how it wouldn’t work :D

Ive definetely been warming up to the idea that sounded so strange at first but I think it reminds my of my other favorite game harvest moon and thats just wonderful!! Ive been so appreciative of the flowers in AC and to have veggies too would kinda make sense and be totally awesome!!!

I personally want it since I love food/drink furniture and would love there to be more things for my character to eat/drink. I’m not sure how well it would work with AC. I think they could get it to work if they put a full effort into it.

I’d like it if different ingredient combinations could make certain dishes or beverages and some having more than one possible combination (like in the sims 3). The chance to fail at making consumable food would make it interesting in my opinion.

Also it’d be interesting to have different effects depending on what food the player consumes like increase diving speed for a day, an effect to be undetected by bugs, high luck at getting rarer or bigger fish, etc.

I wonder if it's be similar to Fantasy Life's cooking. It's be definitely something for me to be addicted to because I don't do much now.

One of my friends has repeatedly brought up the lack of food items in this game and I think bringing mechanics like these into the game would make people like her very happy.

It would also fit the slow playstyle of this game pretty well, where you do something now and get the results one or more days later. I could see it being a nice way to make some extra bells (insert 'it ain't much, but it's honest work' memes here)

I guess the farming would be nice for creating more resources and new recipes, but what would be the use of cooking? Decorative food? Usually food prep in other games produces healing or sustenance for the characters, but we don't need either in Animal Crossing.

Maybe eating the food could give us temporary buffs, like being able to dive underwater longer, or immunity to tarantula bites and scorpion stings. I guess that would be good.

What I would really like is if they could introduce a new character that we can sell the food we produce to in exchange for new furniture sets. Or bring in a new character that wants to open a restaurant and who hires us to be the cook, kind of like Brewster's Roost in New Leaf, but more in depth.

What I'm getting at, is that I'm not sure that farming and cooking by themselves would add that much to the game without further expansion to the gameplay, but I won't mind if they add them in.

it'd take some getting used to for sure, but I love this feature in games like HM/SoS and stardew valley so am definitely looking forward to having it implemented in NH! although if the mechanism for cooking is as slow as it is for crafting i'm sure it'll get old fast. farming however is definitely something I would absolutely love! I have a farm of sorts set up anyway, so being able to switch my yellow hyacinths and mum cushions for actual plants would definitely be an upgrade :p

I don't really like the idea :( I worry that it'll make the game too life-simmy or too much like other games. I'm hoping that if food/farming is implemented, that any veggies or whatever will just behave like fruit trees, so you can plant them and forget about them lol. Hopefully the cooking is just crafting with food and it lets us make the missing food items.

if you think about it, it wouldn't be so out of the ordinary in AC world when we have already acquired ingredients for thanksgiving in past games. it's just a different kind of mechanic if farming is involved but also, it makes it seem more realistic. rather than just getting the ingredients from villagers all the sudden. like, where do they even get that right? villagers (especially normals & lazies) talk about food all the time where are these food they speak of lol. it's just adds a little something to make it more realistic but not too realistic if you ask me.

i think it also wouldn't be that far from flower breeding element of the game. people already make their own farm gardens, so why not make it real.

i love how people complain how there's nothing to do, and when there's something to do, they don't want. what-is-the-truth-oprah.gif

I'm quite apprehensive tbh, if I want to cook and farm I'll go play one of the many cooking and farming games around. If they added this feature I'd probably ignore it since that's not why I bought and play animal crossing. That being said, I kinda enjoyed growing my own turnips from seeds back in ww. I wouldn't really know what to do with any other veg or dishes if they were to be included. For one, it would give people who designed a kitchen in their house a way to interact with it other than changing clothes in the refrigerator.

Farming will be added eventually because veggies are in the game's coding. I am guessing around November because that's when the Harvest Festival happened in NL. Just a theory, but I don't think we will "cook" per se but we will probably craft DIY food recipes given by Franklin or obtain the recipes when we collected necessary ingredients. We grow ingredients like potatoes and pick fruit like apples to make recipes like potatoes au gratin or apple pie, which will be nice considering the lack of food furniture in the game.
