What do you gift your villagers to boost friendship without ruining their house interiors?

I usually stick with clothes though they do have a tendency to display them in their houses awkwardly.
I also give them fish or bugs if they ask for them, but I try not to give them any furniture items or pieces.
I do want to get all my villagers' photos eventually (have gotten 6 so far with one of those villagers no longer living on my Island) but I'm also worried about ruining their interior aesthetic.
I was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks regarding this.
In NL, I didn't care at all and all my villagers ended up with junky fossil-filled houses - well, I'm not making the same mistake this time around.

I’ve heard that people like to gift fruit! I don’t though I just tend to gift them clothing cause I think certain pieces look cute on them :)

I kind of just like to gift copies of what they already have, or items that are part of sets that they have in their house. ie. for Diana she has some white rattan furniture and a shell bed, so I'll give her white things or shell things that match her colors/aesthetic.

and I think wrapping gives more points so always do that too!

speaking of which, UGH i so regret letting chevre buy that carp from me... biggest mistake ever.

You could give them fruit, I tend to give them clothing or pieces of furniture that I think fits their house.

I always give my villager wrapped fruit and it works. I ended up getting total of 2 villager photos that way.

Foreign fruit, wrapped always! I got Diana's picture the other day after giving her an orange, so it definitely works lol

Shells, mostly. I also give clothes a lot because somehow the game loves to throw dresses at me through balloon presents and I'm not really the dress type. :)

I sold one of my freshly caught mackerel to Audie. (I wasn't aware that she's gonna put it on display.) Now that fish tank is ruining her interior house decoration. :ROFLMAO:

the best way to get rid of fish is to gift a 1x1 item that looks nice in their house, theyll usually get rid of the fish for that. pekoe had a carp that was junking up her house and i gave her a dress that she keeps displayed there instead and it looks much nicer and fits her

fruit I don't think they place it, and well they can't wear it, sooooo

wall items. they'll never put it up.

i go back and forth between iron wall lamps and hanging terrariums.

I made a mistake of giving them sunglasses and hats, not knowing that they'll display it by placing them, on the floor, inside their houses. Makes it super random looking to have a bunch of heads with glasses and hats...

Now I just start gifting them things that would look better in their house and having some sort of a theme to it. My biggest issue that I've recently introduced is that I wrap their gifts to get extra friendship points. I play AC without real purpose so I can be doing one thing and then switch over to another. Sometimes I forget that I have specific gifts for specific villagers as the wrappers makes it look all the same. I won't even remember until AFTER they receive their gifts. This is why Diana is now a proud owner of a katana. She placed it on top of her mantle too! I actualy bought it for Lyman so that I can make him into a Samurai with all of the previous stuff I gave him. Didn't even realized that there was a reason why I wrapped that specific gift with it's unique gift wrap color, lol.

for villagers I’m trying to increase friendship with, I give wrapped iron wall lamps, cause they never hang anything on their walls. you can also give them wreaths!
furniture gifts adds +3 to their friendship, and wrapping it adds another +1.

i also like giving them flower crowns and clothing that matches them.

I personally just give them wrapped non native fruits since that is easy to do. At max friendship, that should give around a 5% chance of getting a photo. With some other items that can go up to 10% chance, I believe. There is a friendship guide if you are curious

Another vote for gift-wrapped non-native fruit. Up to 9/10 photos (but early on I regrettably gifted some of them expensive furniture).
