what are your guys' thoughts on duping? also question on clover spawn?

idk if discussing this or if the topic isn't allowed to be done on here or whatever, but what are your thoughts?

i would probably never really do it if i had the chance for most cases, but recently while trying to get back into acnl again after two long hiatuses, i'd been thinking how much easier it'd be if i could dupe the lucky clovers i'd bought and collected over time for my paths. (of course i'd never plan on making a profit with clovers and i'd end up giving away my excess lucky ones in a giveaway of somesort along with bells as a way to give back to the community)

i've tried to time travel a year forward to make regular clovers spawn so i wouldnt have to move around lucky clovers and just make them spawn in place and pluck the excess, but it didnt work at all and i simply don't have the bells to buy the rest of the lucky clovers i need,

so does anyone know how to time travel so that a lot of regular clovers will spawn in your town? it'd be a big help and i wouldnt have to resort to duping and needing to find someone trustworthy to do it with.

yeah, my thoughts exactly. i've also read that the risks really arent as high as they are made to be, and that only a few people have any real issues with it.

I duped to get clovers for my town. ^^;

That was back when I didn't time travel, so I don't regret it. Clovers take too long.

Personally, as long as you don't sell the stuff, it's fine.

I remember when Swapnote was still around, someone I used to Wifi with would advertise by sending notes to all his NL friends and he would say something along the lines of, "If you need money, contact me! I can duplicate items for you. I can offer you work in return!" or something like that. I didn't know what duping was at the time, and I already had my own money from Beetle farming (before I discovered TBT and selling villagers), so I never contacted him.

If you need clovers, try going to the Retail board or maybe time travel months at a time instead of years and see if it makes a difference.

i tried going to retail but it seems like everyone needs them and it's hard to get any clovers at all unless you're paying a ridiculous amount of bells.

also i'll try months, thanks! plus i heard they dont really spawn in winter so maybe that's the issue??? idk

edit: just read the rules and the only thing that's not allowed is selling duped items and using the forum to find people to dupe with you. so if you sell items and you tell people you dupe than you're busted. but tbh i think what i was saying earlier doesnt reaaaally hurt anyone??

Yeah, i agree with your opinion, though i do believe it's harder to corrupt your game than you think it is. it's only happened to a handful of people out of the million who play it, including people who duped and didnt dupe.

Tbh, I only ever duped landscaping items. (Clovers, saplings, bush starts etc) for my own personal use. I wouldnt sell them though, cause rules. but yeah ~ I have two DSs but its still pretty frustrating ><

Hmm yea I don't like duping personally. I think the game is much more relaxing and soothing if you just let things happen naturally.

I don't care if others do it. Its their game, so I have no qualms with what they do with their own time. ^^

tbh, acnl is like my ocd outlet, i'm not diagnosed or anything, but it's where i can spend a lot of my time organizing and micro-managing everything to the cent and i'm more relaxed when it's all in order and everything is specific and turning out nice and organized. i wouldnt be able to play naturally, i'd get bored. but yeah, to each their own.

yeah, personal use is perfectly fine, it's just making the game less tedious imo. i would feel too bad to sell anything i ever duped.

I always kinda wanted to try it once after I wanted like 50 saplings for my town landscaping. I saw it in multiple YouTube videos being done, but I had lots of trust issues with people on the forums for one, and for another I kinda wanted to earn my stuff, so I just never got around to finding someone to help and I didn't really care to do it that much, especially with how everyone freaks out a lot about messing up their game and saying it's against the rules and just general rudeness over the concept of duping.

haha (x and i think that if i watched that video i'd also get really paranoid. i got really paranoid about plot resetting when like two people said they got corrupted games from it. after looking into it, i realized that it's really unlikely for it to happen, but it dpesnt necessarily happen exclusively with plot resetting and can actually happen anytime, so if it happens, you never had control to begim with and whatever you were doing at the time didnt have affect on it so really just *cringes with what i'm about to say* just yolo it and play as you like.

yeah same, i agree with everything haha, that's why i'd only ever dupe clovers bc i have easy access to buying trees and bushes in my emporium and on here, and it'd be an overtime kinda thing that happens slowly and gives me a reason to play everyday, bit by bit

When I time traveled to get weeds for my weeding badge, I found going forward a month at a time worked best so maybe that may work for your clovers? just a thought.

i'll definitely try that! i also heard that tting a month forward also helps grass rejenerate?
