you don't have to do turnips to get bells, it's only if you feel like doing them. When i first started playing years ago, someone explained it to me as the stock market of animal crossing. On sundays, you will see this warthog named Joan roaming your town. she's selling turnips. you can buy them from her for a certain price and each day at re-tail you can sell them but you wanna try and sell them for a higher price then you bough them for. it changes daily. some people will advertise in the train station forum that they have a certain price for turnips being offered in their retail. it's really just about buying and making profit.
yes the turnips will rot if you time travel and i think if you dont sell them after awhile? I've never really been into buying them.
They rot on the beginning of the following Sunday.

Oh....I see. Then there really isn't a way to cheat the system, so I don't get how people are making so many Bells off of them. Everyone is telling me they make millions. I was thinking planting lots will make lots, but obviously that's not the case at all.
Well you can't plant turnips.
People will post when they have a high turnip price, so don't worry about missing out. ^^
Oh awesome. Thank you.

You can definitely abuse this a bit with TTing. If someone has a high buying price, and it's a Sunday in your game, you can just keep buying turnips and going over and selling. Rinse and repeat. Or vice versa, where you have a high buying price and someone else has Joan in their town.
You don't even need to do that to make millions, though. I have a character whose storage I only use for turnips, so I fill it up on Sunday and resell during the week. That always gets me over 5m.
Oh my gosh. Sounds like a lot of work, but with a little bit of thought in execution I can definitely see how it could be used now. Wow. Mind blown.
