As a person who hasn't played a Pokemon game since the 2nd generation, a lot of Pokemon these days seem very unrecognizable to me. Granted, I know a couple of Pokemon from 3rd generation and up, but the ones I know more about are the first two. I can even name all 151 Pokemon from the 1st generation without using a source.

I have two questions related to the title. 1) What are the more obscure/less known Pokemon to those who don't play Pokemon that much? And 2) Is it true that the 1st generation Pokemon in general are more well-known to all gamers (Pokemon players and non-Pokemon players) than the other Pokemon? I know the first set very well and don't know the next few sets, but I'm not sure about other people that don't play Pokemon.

1.) Stunfisk, Maractus, Qwilfish, Finneon, Lumineon, and Stantler very often completely evade my mind even though Pokemon has been a part of my life for over 10 years now and I have been playing Pokemon regularly again in the past 2 years. As a matter of fact the only time I do remember them is whenever the question you presented pops up in my head.

2.) Pokemon GO's exposure to the media should speak for this one pretty easily, especially since the game only has the first generation of Pokemon in it so far. Also, I feel like there is more merchandise that revolves around Gen 1 more than any other generation but I could be wrong on that one.

So I'm guessing that the recognition is so high there that Pokemon like Omastar, Kabutops, Tauros, and Farfetchd (some of the Kanto Pokemon we care about less) are more well known than some of the legendaries and starter Pokemon from future generations, whether or not Pokemon Go exists.

One I can think of right off the bat is Quilfish.

The only time I've seen its existence acknowledged was a Tumblr post about how no one acknowledges its existence.

Stantler, Corsola (sadly), Chatot, Venonat, Venomoth, Qwilfish, Maractus, Finneon, Lumineon, Smoochum, Spearow, Fearow.

I really want some of these to get some spotlight. >.<

I'm surprised to see Spearow and Fearow as the more forgotten Pokemon. In a list with 800+ Pokemon, they are like within the first 25 Pokemon.

Yeah, I recognize Spearow, Fearow, Venonat, and Venomoth pretty well.

I know more less-recognized Pokemon: Dewgong, Doduo, and Tangela. Still first generation.

I always forget about them.
Pidgey takes their spotlight.

Yeah I was gonna a say Finneon and Lumineon too. I like they're designs but they're completely over shadowed by every other water type. Other pokemon that are not well known/forgettable: lileep, cradily, luvdisc, bergmite, avalugg, basculin, Durant, heatmor, sunkern and sunflora

Gorebyss.

I adore this Pok?mon, but its sad its forgotten so much.
Same thing with Clamperl and Huntail.

I feel like Girafarig is forgotten and it's one of my personal faves. Others I can think of are Cherubi + Cherrim and Slugma + Magcargo. I do think a lot of it comes down to the usefulness or like their stats and typing, which can cause them to be forgotten. A lot of them are quite generic in what they can do, so that leaves people a lot more stronger options for certain roles. I kind of like it tho, like when you see people using them it's really refreshing.

Elgyem and Beheeyem. Bet you've never heard of those lol :lemon:

I tend to forget what most of the fairies are, mostly because I think the fairy type is dumb. It is like they took every pink Pok?mon and turned them into fairies for no reason.

I just looked at all of the 6th generation Pokemon. Judging by the fact there are only 72 of them, I'm sure that they will be easy to memorize, I just need to study them more. The 1st generation may have more than double the 6th, but I memorized them pretty well. That, and a lot of the most famous Pokemon species are in that generation.

I tend to forget a bunch of the gen 6 Pokemon. But if someone told me a name and asked me the generation it was in, I'd be able to get it.
