what are the benefits of the forum Friend feature?

I read the faq, but I didn't see any mention of the benefits of friending somebody. do you automatically get notice when you are each on the forum or something like that?

Being friends is mainly a social thing. The only thing that changes really is that their posts show up in your feed and your posts how up in their feed.

It's makes it easy to check their profile since they're on your contact list, think of it as a shortcut. But it's mainly to show that your friends with a person!
