So for english class our homework was to print out a poem that we already liked, or to find a poem that we like. I am not really into poetry so I do not know any good poems. I figured that maybe someone on here may have a couple of good famous poems that I should look at. Sorry but it has to be a poem from a known poet .. not a poem made by you or a friend lol. Just write the title or even post a link to one on the internet. And help is really appreciated!

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong board but I figured that it's not really a chatting thread so I decided not to put it in Brewster's. Move it if necessary.

Here is one from one of my favorite poets: The Raven, or there is Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll. If you don't like either let me know as I am sure I can think of one you would like :P

omg, those were the two EXACT poems I was going to post. It's funny we just did a chapter on edgar allen poe in school, and I had to memorize jabberwocky in the 7th grade. Here's another by Edgar Allen Poe if you want one.

A Dream Within A Dream by Edgar Allan Poe
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow--
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand--
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep--while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Gah. Poetry. It irritates me to high heavens.
Poetry only irritates me when it rhymes, lol.
Anyways, you can find good infamous poems at PoemHunter.com.

Here's a good one:

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Sugar is sweet
And so are you!

This is epic and infamous. I'd lol to see what your teacher would say at this one. e.e

Anything by Edgar Allan Poe. Seriously.
That man is genius.
And The Raven....my favorite poem<3
He is also my favorite author/poet ever.
I love poetry<3

Yeah I like Edgar Allen Poe too, we read "The Fall Of The House Of Usher" and it was really good. He has a great style, I enjoy reading more dark short stories. Anyways, I used the Raven and my teacher was like,"One of my favorite poems", so thanks guys =)

My Reading teacher is all about famous poets. So we read Annabel Lee, The Raven, The Black Cat and a few others.

If you want something a bit more cheerful. Then there's Bear in There by Shel Silverstein
