As the title says, I'm curious why some nicknames are green? My villagers all call me "peanut", honestly, I don't remember agreeing to this the first time, but I agreed when a villager would ask me if they could also call me the that.
The weird part is that his happened after I let Peanut (the squirrel villager) go .-. so this kinda haunts me. But I've been wondering why this nickname is "special", why does it show-up in green?

Last time I played an AC games was over 10 years ago, so I'm at a loss as to why this happens.

I thought all nicknames appeared in green...? Maybe my memory is just slipping. I know for sure that my nickname -- the one I told villagers to call me -- appears in green in their dialogue boxes. And I seem to recall "chief" was the same way. But I agreed to be called this name ages ago, when Phoebe suggested it. Maybe you did agree to be called "peanut" and it just happened so quickly you don't remember? Hopefully you'll get a prompt from one of your villagers soon to set your own nickname; you'll need to refuse one of their suggestions first, and then there's a chance this will happen right after.

One villager asked me to change her catchphrase, and I didn't like it very much, do I agreed. Now all my villagers use it :( I didn't know I was going to loose all the original ones, otherwise I woudn't have accepted it. Are you confusing the nickname with the catch phrase? Because with the nickname, I had to agree every time, as the villager would come running and ask if he could call me that

Yes, as stated by SmrtLilCookie all nicknames will show up as green text during villager dialogue. You'll have to wait until a villager decides to give you another nickname (or allows you to suggest your own) to change it.

On the other hand, greetings and catchphrases will always use the same color that normal dialogue text uses.

It's just seems a bit weird, maybe they're trying to make the nicknames pop. I was just wondering if there was something "special" about them. Phoebe recently asked to call me something awful like Barnacle or something like that... and I was rushing so I AGREED cbjdhflbvdflajfhvjahbvf I can't believe it. I feel so bad turning other villagers down when they ask if they can call me that but.... no freaking way am I making that mistake again t.t

No, it's definitely a nickname. I've changed my villagers catchphrases and greetings, but those don't show up as green
Yes.... I changed Marina's catchphrase to "blop" and it's weird hearing Apollo say that lol. So I know what you mean t.t

So far I haven't been able to suggest my own nickname but I'm at a high level friendship with a lot of my villagers (I have 4 of their photos) so hopefully it'll happen soon, or do I have to max out friendship levels for that?

Welcome to the world of terrible nicknames, haha. I've turned down quite a few of them by now, yet the last villager I spoke to didn't let me suggest one myself again.

That reminds me of when I used to have Scoot in my town. I gave him the catchphrase "Pec-tacular" (spectacular/pecs pun) and then everyone (including Tia and Lolly at the time) were saying it; same thing happened when I changed Jacques' to "mon beau" (with the intention of it being "my handsome", but looks like that can also mean "my beautiful" too) and Diana started using it shortly after.

I honestly can't recall if you even needed to have a high level of friendship with them or not to have the chance of suggesting a nickname when declining theirs. I think it's more of a luck/rng thing, if anything. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

It’s a video game thing. When you enter your name in Zelda, it displays it in a different color when an NPC uses it. I never liked it. It makes it stand out in a form letter way. “Thanks for rescuing my cucco, Your Name!”
