Welcome Amiibo save data

I have a town on Animal Crossing: New Leaf and I just bought the physical version of Welcome Amiibo. I want to transfer my town from the older game but I don?t know how it will work and if I will lose anything. If anyone?s done it before can you tell me if you lost anything in your town and how the town was upgraded (like how the campsite was added)

I bought New Leaf (physical copy) after the welcome amiibo update had already come out, but isn’t there a free update you can download from the Nintendo eshop? I wasn’t aware you had to buy the whole game again. Or is free welcome amiibo update only available for people who bought the digital version of New Leaf?

I didn?t have to buy it, I just chose to, but my issue is retrieving the data from my old copy and I wondered if someone had done it before because I know you can I just don?t know how it works

I've transferred my old ACNL towns to the New Welcome Amiibo cartridge a few times.

Old digital ACNL or New Welcome Amiibo digital?
If you have the old digital ACNL before the update it can be imported to a New WELCOME Amiibo cartridge. Welcome Amiibo digital can't be imported to a Welcome Amiibo cartridge. The New Welcome amiibo cartridge has the RV on the box art.

The New Welcome Amiibo digital/cartridge added an import town on the loading screen. Place the Welcome Amiibo cartridge in the 3DS that has your digital town. Open the game and pick import town. The game will looks for your digital town and than follow the instructions. It's done in a few minutes.

I've moved 2 old digital towns to the NEW Welcome Amiibo cartridge. The only thing I lost was the houses in the showcase that I street passed.

I've also moved my main town cartridge from 2013 to the Welcome Amiibo cartridge. At the time the old cartridge was popping out of the 3DS and was having problems saving.
Placed the Welcome Amiibo Cartridge in the 3DS and picked import town. Game found the digital copy and I said no. It than said to remove the Welcome Amiibo Cartridge and place the other cartridge in the 3DS. Followed the instructions and my town moved in a short period of time.
