Splatoon Weird ranked scores

What score made you scratch your head? I got -1 after a match. Someone at Miiverse said that happened to him twice. In any case, the only notable thing I remember about that match I got -1 for was one of my teammates disconnecting at the start. Pity penalty?

From what I've gathered the prizes and penalties are based off of your teams average rank Vs. the opposing team's rank. It doesn't really help considering 1 super good player still won't be able to do jack if all his team mates suck, but it basically works like this:

Your team has an A+ and 3 Bs while the other team has 4 Bs.

Since you have "more skill", you're expected to win, thus you get less points (Ex. +8 instead of +10) because it was "easier", while the other team loses less points (Ex. -8 instead of +10) because it was "harder" for them and not "fair".

However, if the opposing team would win, instead it would result in you losing more points because, again, you were expected to win and it should have been "easy" for you, so you get a larger penalty because you managed to lose an "easy" game (Ex. -12 instead of -10). And again, since the opposing team had less "skill", they would gain a bigger prize because it was "harder" for them (Ex. +12 instead of +10).

But then this all seems to change when you're on the verge of losing your rank. Once you're a 1 standard game (-10) away from losing your rank (I believe, but it may just be x points from being demoted), the next loss will result in a type of safety cushion and take away perhaps 6 instead of 10.

I'm guessing if you're at 12 points then you lose 10 points, then you lose again, it'll only take away 1 point because you didn't "use" your safety cushion for the first game.

It'd really help if they gave some type of chart, but that's the best I've made of it from playing.
