Weeding day

So i read that on weeding day, you can get four of the items from weeding in your own town, and the other eight from weeding in other people's towns. And also, that if you have no weeds, the mayor gets the topiaries, and the alt. characters get an item - one of the four available from weeding in your own town. So I'm planning on making alt. characters and deleting them, to get all four items, and I'll have the topiaries as well. My question is - to get the remaining eight items, can i still weed in other people's towns? Or will i only be able to get the remaining items if my town has weeds too? So basically, if i want the topiaries, is it still possible for me to obtain all the items this way?

Not sure about using the alt. characters in your own, town, but you can definitely pick up all the items in another town. Just make sure whoever you visit has plenty of weeds. You'll need to pull 30 in their town per item.

I have a weeding day idea for getting the topiaries. You will need 50,000 bells and the want to time travel 38 years. Enact night owl or early bird ordinance and time travel to January 1st, 2012. Then time travel to december 31st, 2050. You'll become swarmed with weeds! then the day before weeding day ask Leif to weed. He'll do it! Then on weeding day, you'll have 0 weeds and get the topiaries! Yeah that's cheating but I'm gonna do that!
